I'm looking into getting a new PC game after being hooked on World in Conflict for, well...too long. I use a laptop with 2GB Ram, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7900 Go, and a 2.16GHz Dual Core. I'm in a toss-up over these three games. Here are some basic criteria I'm trying to follow:

-It doesn't need to run at 100% graphics capacity at all times...I'm not that kind of gamer. I'd sacrifice quality for performance

-I'm not looking for an aggressive RTS that will make me pull my hair out in extreme anger and punch my screen(WiC is one of those games)

-It would be cool for the game to have decent multiplayer...and multiplayer that actually has people in it.

-Time commitments are okay, but it can't take 4-5 hours to resolve something (I've heard SoaSE has this problem, but is the review accurate?)

-It needs to be FUN!

So, of these three games and based (not strictly) on these criteria, which game would you suggest? If you've played any of these games, how have your experiences been?

Out of those I'd recommend Supreme Commander (gold edition), tho it can get pretty, ok, extremely aggressive.

I'd also recommend Company of Heroes, it's a very good game :).

If you want a Command & Conquer game, get Red Alert 3 it's way better than Tiberium Wars.

SoaSE is way too boring, I love these types of games, I don't mind it's slow pace and complexity but everything in it is boring, even a battle between hundreds of ships, I don't know, I thought it's not good at all, I wouldn't give it more than 6.5, Homeworld 2 (even tho it's not exactly the same) is way better than it.

Yeah man, if you haven't played Company of Heroes yet, I definitely recommend it over the other games mentioned. Get COH Gold. The single player is generally more casual than your usual RTS, but there are some intense situations here and there. Multiplayer and skirmish get intense and are very popular. I don't play it though.

I own Company of Heroes and I agree, it is an excellent game, but there's something wrong with my copy in that it won't download the latest patch. Believe me, I've tried everything and nothing has worked, so I can't play online multiplayer. The only thing I can think of to resolve the issue would be to buy the Game of the Year edition with the patches already applied.

Well, I've thought about Red Alert 3, but the strategy is just...I don't know...not...realistic. At all. I've played Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge and RA3 looks to be out of the exact same pot, although slightly more ludicrous.

Out all of those, get command and conquer 3, if you like extremely long games then get Sins of a Solar Empire.

Supreme Commander and Sins of a Solar Empire are both extremely deep and involved strategy games that are more rewarding as you put more time into them. I would go with one of those.

Sins of a Solar Empire is an experience you wont likely get from most other RTS games, obviously because its based in space. I find it to be really cool. It has a good bit of units or "ships" to choose from, especially the Capital Ships which ultimately become the focus of your Armadas. Each faction has atleast five of these Capital ships to choose from, but doesnt limit you to just one. You can eventually obtain all five, and even more based on how much money you have as well aswhat your "unit limit" is at. They each have several special abilities that can be upgraded as your Capital ships level up...I think they can be leveled up rather far which makes them a pretty formidable unit as the game progresses, given you use them intelligently. Another thing I like about the game is the camera functions. Being able to go from a view of the entire solar system your currently in, and zoom all the way in to a small force of ships just entering a planets atmosphere after exiting hyperspace in order bombard the enemy planets surface, is rather epic. Look at some of the gameplay videos of it here on Gamespot...I also think they havea Demo you can get for free. Hope this helps in your decision. Happy Gaming!!

Sins. CnC and SupCom feel like derivative RTS games by comparison.

The review says that a Sins battle can sometimes take up to 6-8 hours to resolve, are you able to save in the middle of it or do you have to either win or lose before you can save it?

Yeah you can save. The shortest Sins game (1v1 on a small solar system) can be done in 30 minutes, while the largest games spanning across lots of solar systems can take over a week to finish.

Sins by a mile. SupCom is pretty awesome, but Sins is one of my top 5 all time strategy games. It's just fantastic. C&C3 doesn't even belong in the same thread as those two, though. Extremely disappointing.

I would definitely get Sins of a Solar Empire. I have all 3 of those games and Sins is by far my favorite.

C&C3 is kinda stale after a while, SupCom is pretty good, but Sins is amazing. I have never played such a unique and addictive strategy game in my life.

Based off your post, I think you want C&C3; however, I do not recommend this game, it's pretty mediocre, but I think it's what you are looking for. Sins is slow paced and will take you a long time to play a game and the online community is small. However this is probably the best out of the 3. Supreme commander is also a great game, but again the community is small and the battles can be fairly lengthy. As for your issue with CoH, I had the same problem, but was able to get the patch online somewhere and I got it updated and fixed. I think you should just stick with CoH, get your game fixed. Sins and Sup Com are both great games, but I don't think they are what you are looking for.

Get your copy of CoH fixed!

If you want something with good story and fun, fast-paced battles...get C&C 3. Online is pretty darn fun, too.

If you want something epic with tons of base building, units, and huge battles that can go fast or last hours...get Supreme Commander.

If you want something unique that is a bit more slow-paced and requires a bit of thinking...get Sins.

As far as running the games, you shouldnt have too much hassle. Keep in mind that SupCom is a processor-intensive game, so that is the biggest issue (2GB of memory helps as well).

Theyre all good games, those are just my one-sentence summaries of them.

So how does singleplayer in Sins present itself? I mean, if there's no campaign, then how does the game start you off?

Kinda like a tutorial, more like skirmishes. And Sup Com's sp sucks, it is there but it's pretty bad compared to sp campaigns from other games, Sup Com is all about skirmishes and multiplayer.

Sins of a Solar empire is the best, i have all 3. C&C 3 flat out blows, Supreme Commander is ok, but Sins of a solar empire is more fun in my opinion. But Sins of a solar empire's single player is just a bunch of skirmishes, but they are extremely fun. you can't go wrong with any of them except C&C3, don't buy it, EA ruined C&C.
