Meh. They have to recallibrate the system to use LGA775 and regular DDR2/3 ram to be competitive.

Competitive how? It was never meant to be a mass-marketable set up. More something that makes your jaw hit the floor from amazement.

LGA775 would not allow for dual CPU sockets, given that I have never seen a dual-LGA775 board. Also, since LGA771 CPUs are generally meant for workstations and servers, their corresponding chipsets thus require FB-DIMMs for reliability-something very important in markets where RAM errors could be costly. If anything, this is more of a workstation board that happens to have a bit more of an emphasis on SLI and CrossFire support than other boards in its class. And, like all workstation-class equipment, it won't come cheap-after all, as the poster above says, Skulltrail is for those who want the best of the best, cost be damned!

I don't see the point in this board. Honestly, Vista will not utilize all that power and
regular home user does not need 8 cores, no home application needs that much.

And talking about games . . . Crysis won't even support single quad-core CPU, neither will
other games, why bother with 2 quad cores?

the skulltrail is yet further proof that hardware is advancing quicker than what software can utilize. great that you can have 8 cpus running at the same time, its a shame that by the time it can be used effectively (all 8 that is) it will be FAR cheaper than what it is now and most likely more powerful. i have a quad core computer and rarely do i use even 2 out of the 4 cores (crysis takes advantage of it and i BELIEVE GOW does too, but thats about it) unfortunately all my music recording/editing software can't utilize dual (much less quad) core. if it could, i'd be playing back 350 tracks at once *drools*

Crysis doesn't support quad core? Then why do 4cores become utilized when I play Crysis? :|

Well that is the strange thing about this.Crysis does run on 4 cores but a quad core get's outperformed by a dual core of slightly more speed.

Weird... I guess it's not really optimized for quad cores. That would explain why each core only gets to about 50%-60% usage. All well, it's a good thing I do a lot of multi-tasking to actually take advantage of 4 cores. Too bad games aren't yet, though Alan Wake looks very promising. If you have a quad core, one core will be completely devoted to physics, thus negating having to buy a PPU.

What wrong with that?

I give you $1,000,000,000 and you have the choice of buying either a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass with rust, transmission problems, no AC, and a leaky oilpan, or you could buy a brand new BMW M5. Which of the two cars are you going to buy?

Both cars get their respected jobs done, but which one will you take?

My point is that for some people money is no obstical and if they love gaming and have money falling out of their ass then they are going to want an uber system like skulltrail.
