You can use previous characters to play it or you need to create a new one/s as in Oblivion?

Looks good, must finish the campaign (250+ hours and running) some day...

I like the 'build your own house' format of Hearthfire. It makes a change from being given a template house that you have no control over how it's customised, unable to move furniture, chests around ect...

But this one just seems like most of the other DLCs that get released for games that are all pretty much the same.

Going to pass on this one.

Oblivion didn't require you to do that. I'm pretty sure you can just play with your current character.

Oblivion didn't require you to do that. I'm pretty sure you can just play with your current character.

You need to create a new character if you want to play "The Order of the Nine" and "The Shivering Isles" expansions in Oblivion; older characters can be still played but they don't gain access to the new content once you install it. I spent over 400 hours on Oblivion, I'm pretty sure about that -don't mind if that is again the case with Skyrim, I did the Oblivion campaign more than one time-. Is just that I want to known about.

I remember clearly that i didn't have to when i got those two. In fact, i haven't ever seen any gamebryo game (TESIV, TESV, FO3, FNV) need that in order for what is basically a mod to work.

You're wrong. You don't need to make a new character for any of the content in oblivion, fallout 3, new vegas or skyrim.

I'm gonna play Skyrim next year when I really feel like playing it and some deals are going on and more mods are out. This DLC looks like it's got some meat on its bones which is good to see.

I haven't even gotten around to Skyrim yet lol, I am waiting on Game of the Year edition, (or whatever it will be) that includes all the goodies, dlc, and expansions.

I can wait, it isn't like we are having a shortage of games, or even good games lately.

Looks like we'll be getting this January 4th at the earliest, though there will probably be a few days of silence period like Dawnguard. Looks sweet. Most likely will get it, having got Dawnguard and loved it and skipped Hearthfire (I prefer new quests and locations over the Sims stuff). Maybe it's time to fire up a Skyrim playthrough - my two main Borderlands 2 characters are currently stuck at level 50 anyway.

yeah, the quests just pop up automatically after installing. Or like in skyrim, someone walks up to you and gives it to you or you overhear people talking about world events. No need to begin fresh

Am I the only one here disappointed with another piece of software which Bethesda say is an 'Add on', when they promised only full scale expansions before the game launched? Disappointment after disappointment with this game....

To be fair, it could be quite large. Solstheim, where it's set, was an expansion for Morrowind before and it wouldn't make a lot of sense for the island to be much smaller than before or anything. I do see where you're coming from tho'.

I've played through the Oblivion main game and all of the expansions/plug-ins with a single character. The usual process is that you have to wait 24 in-game hours after installing new content before you get a quest update that notifies you.

In Skyrim, the principal is the same: after installing Dawnguard, you'd start hearing rumours about an order of vampire hunters, triggering the questline. In Hearthfire, you'd get a message from a courier informing you of the possibility of adopting children.

I fail to see how a new continent (a big one at that) plus new factions, game mechanics, new environments, etc is not a full expansion.

Exactly. I think people are worried because it's coming out so soon - but they likely don't realize that it will have been worked on along side some of the other content, their staff is huge.

'New' continent is not exactly true. They can skip environment design almost entirely if it's going to look the same. Not sure where you're getting the other information, the internet isn't telling me any of that stuff. I really don't think this will be anywhere near the amount of content of something like Shivering Isles. Will most likely be similar to the previous DLC's, which have been more than underwhelming.

Look what Bethesda was saying about Dawnguard. Saying it was a full scale expansion pack, old school style. Not sure how anyone can trust Bethesda anymore. http://kotaku.com/5916595/skyrims-massive-dawnguard-sounds-like-a-proper-old+school-rpg-expansion

Except it doesn't look entirely the same. Yes there will be some repeated assets but there will also be plenty of new ones, as seen in the trailer. I doubt it will be 'Shivering Isles' large but it's about half the price so you get what you pay for.

Personally I'm just glad it will give modders more morrowind flavoured assets.

My issue isn't necessarily with the size/price ratio of the DLC, I wasn't going to buy it anyway. The issue I have is the devs blatantly lying about the game saying they would make full scale expansions like they used to, then backing down because it's probably too much effort, and they can capitalize on selling nothing for lots like with COD. It's just depressing to compare Bethesda today with what they were a decade ago.

I understand where you're coming from - and to an extent I agree - but I don't think it's fair to compare their content offerings to the likes of EA and Activision. As for them promising full expansion-like dlc, I remember seeing that interview as well, but sadly in big publisher gaming the talk is nothing but. Don't get me wrong, I wish we were getting expansions instead of 'content packs' too - but it doesn't stop me enjoying them.
