I was just thinking which is the best TES game by Bethesda Studios. Personally, I would go with Oblivion because it had the great environments like those great beautiful and relaxing in-a-way forests and those terrifying Oblivion planes. It also had the best UI as it wasn't cluttered and at the same time it wasn't obscure.Combat was stupid but worked well enough. The only thing bad about it was the clay faces and the same dungeons and caves copy pasted all across Cyrodiil.

Skyrim had better graphics and a more fluid combat system yet it failed to bring the variety the quests had in Oblivion. Also, the environments are totally washed out and it's just grey and white all the way. Not to mention that the dragons were hardly boss fights and didn't have that epic factor I was expecting. Also, the enemy variety was tiny and all I fought were bandits, Draugr, wolves and an occasional dragon or two.

Morrowind had the best environments and the culture and architecture style was the best. But the combat was just crazy. Your weapon would clearly strike against an enemy visually but had a CHANCE to hit it. Also it had the best creature variety and the most imaginative monsters and buildings.

As a side note, the best game by Bethesda would be Fallout 3. Great environments, good story, amazing and realistic lore, awesome weapons and the best enemies in an RPG.

The only game I've even LIKED so far has been Morrowind. Very unique and interesting world, and it was easy to become enveloped in its awesomeness. For whatever reason, I couldn't get the game to stop from crashing last time I tried to play it, so I haven't played it in years :(

Morrowind by a long shot.

Oblivion is a great game, and not as bad as some people make it out to be.

Skyrim is one disappointment after another.

Morrowind is one of the best WRPG's ever made. Better in every which way than Oblivion and Skyrim

I love Morrowind. It's an incredible game. Oblivion is pretty good, though was a huge disappointment upon release. I'll say that Skyrim is slightly better than Oblivion, but doesn't come close to touching Morrowind.

Morrowind is the most memorable to me since that was the first I played and the world/creatures/exploration is still probably my favorite...but it's aged and it's combat is just horrible compared to Skyrim (and Skyrim doesn't even have that good of combat). I think if they just remade Morrowind with Skyrims combat and graphics it would be the ultimate RPG...but as it is now I'd rather play one of the newer ones since it's just old.

Morrowind>Skyrim>Oblivion.

I think most people will agree, or maybe they like Skyrim more than Morrowind?

I've never played Morrowind so between Oblivion and Skyrim, I would say Skyrim. The only thing I have against it, is that it's so grey... I know it's LORE friendly and thank God there are light mods, but in general I prefer the lush environments from Oblivion over the barren fields of Skyrim. In all other aspects Skyrim is the better one.

I liked some of the open and unlinear skill creating that you could do in both Oblivion and Morrowind.... but the weird monster level scaling in Oblivion can really take away the feeling of power you should have.

So far my favourite is Skyrim, but I hope someday they remake Oblivion and Morrowind with a new graphics engine... or at least Morrowind. The game deserves it. Im surprised no fans have tried this yet using the Oblivion engine.. or better yet, the Skyrim one.

ive felt that oblivion and skyrim tried to capture morrowind's essence but just failed...morrowind was amazing i put hundreds of hours into that game and probably still hadnt found everything and i know i hadnt gotten bored with the quest variety nor the characters in teh world...it was challenging and deep but not quite as accessable as the newer games...ie u actually had to figure things out for yourself instead of just following a quest marker and ignoring the quest giver...honeslty morrowind is the best tes game to date and they have yet to come close to matching it...even if it looks horrid by todays standards...

u cant really blame the game for that...its in a tundra...not much variety of environment there...frozen ground with some hearty plants here and there to completely iced over...i was actually surprised that there is a swamp in the game

Skyrim is better than Skyrim? So does that mean Skyrim is self improving, improving itself exponentially to godlike levels of awesomeness? That would mean the technological singularity won't be with seed AI's, it will be with Skyrim! ;)

There is a really great mod for Oblivion called Morroblivion which merges Morrowind to your Oblivion engine, and you get Oblivion's combat and graphics with Morrowind's world. I think you need both the games with all expansions to play it and apparently they are going to port it over to Skyrim also. Here's the link: http://morroblivion.com/

Well all the kids will say Morrowind because that's the hip thing to do around here. But Skyrim is better than both Oblivion and Morrowind by quite a bit.

For me Skyrim is the most fun. Dragon encounters > Oblivion gates. I liked Morrowind and all, but that was years ago. Before Skyrim came out I tried to play Morrowind again, I even modded the crap out of it but...it just didn't age well for me.

I like the gameplay of Skyrim the best overall, but like the factions in Morrowind much more. I just really like all the political stuff going on in that game between the factions. I like that factions required you to have certain skill levels to take on quests. I also like how the Morrowind factions many times conflicted with each other, so you couldn't be the top leader of all of them. You usually had to make a choice at some point which faction to stick with. Just much more realistic. The player is treated as just another individual, not a hero-god that everyone praises and bows down to.

Skyrim 9/10 loved it, got 200 hours out of it.
Oblivion 7.5/10 enjoyable, looked great back in the day...

Morrowind I tried for an hour, but just couldn't get into it, I came in way to late on that one, a few years after Oblivion came out.

All in all, I hope Bethesda goes back to Fallout next, like that series substanitally (no way i spelt that right) more

Morrowind>Oblivion>Skyrim in my opinion.

Skyrim was boring as hell, and the questlines were pathetic.

Why do you all prefer Morrowind over Skyrim and Oblivion? Is it just because of the faction wars and the environments or what?

Nostalgia. The game doesn't even hold up to Skyrim or Oblivion, especially if modded.

Morrowind was the best. Oblivion was pretty cool but so damn glitchy. Then I tried Skyrim for like 5-10 minutes and laughed my ass off. What a rip off, it's almost identical to Oblivion only the graphics, especially the animations, are so much worse. I was like WTF IS THIS? haha, seriously.

Sorry, but playing a game for 5-10 minutes does not make you an expert in the field. It's easy to rant about a game, but since you've never REALLY played it, you really shouldn't be that aggressive... Just pick it up and PLAY... then, share your opinion.

I don't play glitchy games that are using DirectX 9 technology in 2012. Maybe if I go to my friends place I'll try it out on his XBOX and then let you know if it still sucks. On the PC, it was a flop... Unless you really believe otherwise then I know you are an inexperienced gamer.

So you didn't notice how crappy the control were in Oblivion 1.5 (aka Skyrim?) You didn't notice the bland colored DirectX 9.0 graphics on your DirectX 11 compatible video card?? Okay when I said inexperienced I meant with PC games, not on your Wii.

Well if you really like the game then I can respect that and I'll leave you be. I have pretty high standards in general and that probably makes the game seem a lot worse than it is from my perspective. If they had released the ported version on the PC with better UI, better controls, updated DirectX 11 graphics that didn't look so bland, I would probably look past all the bugs and glitches and try to enjoy the game. It's still Oblivion 1.5 in my opinion, and there's no way in my mind that it's the best Elder Scrolls game. Morrowind is still the best one of the three because it had actual depth to the game itself and not just pretty graphics.

Skyrim is better than all of them. Morrowind is total garbage. Its combat system is idiotic I can't see how anyone can like it. Not to mention its world is dreadful. To be honest, Morrowind is almost like a single player VANILLA (when combat skills existed) WoW but with a significantly worse universe.

Okay, I agree the combat system has improved drastically, but then again I never play RPG games for combat. I prefer real time strategy and first person shooters for intense combat action. For role playing I prefer a game with a ton of depth to the character development, which is sadly lacking in the more recent Elder Scrolls games.

I'm genuinely surprised at that. Easily the best part of Morrowind for me was the amazing world. It's one of the very few fantasy RPG's I can name that even had a unique and interesting world.. every other game is generifantasy.

Well, its combat system is quite similar to most RPGs out there actually. And it's world is the best part :D How can you not love its unique atmosphere? It might not be as derivative as Oblivion or Skyrim's, but that doesn't mean you have to hate it.

How did you not like Morrowind's world? It's one of the most interesting WRPGs out there. It completely eschews the typical "ye olde European fantasy" setting in favor of something completely alien. Mushroom forests, multistory buildings with no stairs because everyone can levitate, pterodactyls, giant floating jellyfish, and eldritch horrors for enemies, people mining inside giant insect colonies, and gargantuan flea-like creatures used as rapid transport. The story isn't simplistic black and white with an antagonist with no interesting personality. Instead you get a story in which the bad guy can be viewed as good from the right angle, and the good guy (you) viewed as evil. In fact, the antagonist in the game actually tries to make peace with you for much of the early game and only starts trying to actively kill you when it becomes obvious you're deadset on killing him. Meanwhile the people you're trying to save hate you for it (and will try to kill you), and the demigods who are supposed to be the good guys turn out to be just as corrupt as the guy you're trying to kill. Compare this to Oblivion and Skryim which used very down-to-earth settings, and plots that weren't terribly interesting (especially Oblivion's which was just a standard "save the world from this 100% evil guy" story). Another thing that made Morrowind better than either Oblivion or Skyrim was that there was a ton of unique loot hand-placed throughout the game that encouraged you to explore everything you found. Indeed. Meanwhile in Oblivion and Skyrim all of the loot is randomly generated from ordinary items except for quest rewards and craftable items. The only thing Morrowind does worse than its sequels is the combat, but that's easy enough to get over once you accept that Morrowind isn't supposed to be an action RPG.

Hmmm... I personally couldn't really get into Morrowind. Maybe I just got into it a bit too late, but I had a hard time enjoying myself. I liked Oblivion but as a person who likes to explore, the similar dungeons didn't really do it for me. I stopped playing Oblivion after I couldn't beat these trolls because I had level incorrectly. I really like the level up system in Skyrim and enjoyed the slightly better dungeon variety (only slightly though... still pretty damn similary) but having logged many hours into the game I can say that the guilds all suck... you could become king of each guild after a mere 4 quests and you never felt like you were accomplishing anything, and the qualm between the rebels and imperials felt so stupid that I never even joined one of them.

I think they're all fine games, I enjoyed my time with Skyrim the most, but that's just me.
