Anyone is playing this game? I'm impressed by the setting as I saw many Hong Kong elements and even listened to some Chinese folk songs (I'm Chinese, btw). Its action combinations remind me of Arkham City (especially the grapple), but have a mix of Chinese martial arts.

I just picked it up yesterday and really enjoying it. I was also glad to see Hong Kong as the setting. Far too many games use New York (or some made up version of it) as the setting. I would much rather see more exotic locales in games.

I've been playing the sh!t out of it. Took about 2 hours to become one of my favorite games ever. It's absolutely a blast, with very few faults. Also, you're Chinese? Tell me, are the lyrics to the 24Herbs songs on the HKlub radio station as good as the beats? One in particular, No Brothers, has me parking my car to listen to it every time it comes on (that synth string drop going into the third verse... AAAAAAwesome). The beat is incredible, and the raps have a fantastic flow, but, not speaking Chinese, I have no idea what they're saying. Judging by the name of the song, I'm assuming at least part of the chorus translates to "no brothers", but that's about it. Hahaha. Have you heard of those guys outside of the game? Are they awesome?

Finished in the other day. It's a good game with a decent story (didn't really like the ending). The occasional crash was annoying, but by far the biggest annoyance were the controls.

I didn't like the ending either. I thought the controls were perfectly fine though. What was your problem with them?

Yep, the lyrics are good (although in Chinese), what impressed me is they picked up several melodic Chinese songs and put them in an Enligh game. Maybe I will try to get that translated a bit when I went home, haha.

Well my main issue with controls was of course sprint and parkour being on the same key, that was a stupid thing to do which led to a fair bit of frustration. There were a few other minor annoying things.

What was that other Hong Kong set game that came out a few years ago? I think Chow Yun Fat was in it.

It didn't get a good review and this looks very similar to it. Avoiding.

Hmm. I'm not sure what game you're thinking of. But, no matter how similar Sleeping Dogs may look to any bad game you've ever heard of, it's awesome. Definitely worth checking out. There's a free demo you can download on Steam, that does a great job of introducing you to the hand to hand fighting, which is definitely the centerpiece of the game.

I just can't bring myself to buy it. Why spend $50 on this when I'll be purchasing Assassins Creed 3 and GTA V anyway?? :(

Because it's a really fun game with a great story, that isn't made any less great by the existence of other (probably) great games?:P

Anyways, definitely keep an eye on it, at least. Download and play the demo on Steam, if you haven't already. If that doesn't convince you buy it right away, with other games that you're more interested in coming up soon, then at least keep an eye on it, and pick it up the minute it drops in price or goes on sale or something. It's a blast, and I doubt you'd regret buying it, even at full price, if you're the slightest bit into the genre.

Because Sleeping Dogs is not Assassins Creed 3 or GTA V.

Why spend $50 biggest_loser

Sleeping Dogs on GMG

+

GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G

= $37.50

You're welcome

Note: Code is only valid for another hour as of this post, but GMG have had a LOT of sales on Sleeping Dogs and sales across the whole site (got my copy for $36 two weeks ago, since then it's been up for $35 and now $37.50).

I think thats just snark to say "because its not Assassins Creed or GTA" - if you can't see the glaring similarities in the game play then you're blind. My point is that its probably not going to be as good as those two so why buy the second banana first if you're going to be doing similar things but not as good? I think its risk to buy games on story. Most of the storytelling in games is terrible at the moment.

Before I actually played the game, I too expected it to be similar to GTA. In reality, it's really nothing like GTA, but it's still a good game. The similarities between GTA and Sleeping Dogs stop at them both being open world.

Pretty much. And so what if there's similar mechanics in certain parts. Yeah, you'd have to be blind to not see the similarities, but you'd also have to be blind to not see the differences. And for what it's worth, storytelling in games has been lackluster lately, but Sleeping Dogs is one of the exceptions. Definitely among the best of recent memory.

This is from Eurogamers review:

"So you roam a painstakingly designed virtual city, from the slums to the skyscrapers, guided by a GPS breadcrumb trail from one mission-giving contact to another. You drag hapless citizens from their vehicles and steal their rides, listening to a selection of contemporary and retro music tracks on the radio as you roar away. You take part in point-to-point street races. You unlock a series of safe houses, each more pimped out than the last. You deliver item A to location B. You escort character X. You steal cars to order, beat up people with target markers floating over their heads like little swords of Damocles, and trail cars without filling the gauge that makes them suspicious. That's not to say that Sleeping Dogs gets anything badly wrong, but it's a paint-by-numbers version of an experience we've had dozens of times before".

I'm sure its not bad but the way they described it sounds exactly like GTA. I dont want to pay full price for an inferior version!

Congratulations, you found a review which points out some similarities between the two. I've played the game, you haven't. Your opinion is moot.

Sleeping Dogs is as much GTA as Just Cause is GTA. It's like saying Battlefield and Call of Duty are the same thing, just because they're both first person shooters.

To me, New York is exotic. As it is to most people who don't live in America.

Playing and loving it. Not a single regret that I pre-ordered it back in spring.
