Crysis is running horribly slow on my new computer. I know it is a demanding game, but it seems like I should be getting better performance. When I run it on very high in DX10 at 1280 x 800, I get about 30 FPS out of combat and about 15-20 in combat. On all high settings, my framerates still drop into the teens in heavy combat.

Is this normal performance? Most of the benchmarks I have seen show that the 4850 is capable of better performance in Crysis.

The rest of my specs are:

E7200

4GB DDR2 PC800 RAM

Vista x64 Ultimate

Catalyst 8.7

I have the latest patch for Crysis and all of the latest drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.

When I have them in high, the framerate is still pretty low, even in DX9 mode.

Yeah I know, everyone seems to be getting better performance than me

I don't think it is my processor, however. an E7200 is about equal to aQ6600 for gaming.

Yeah, try a defrag and do an anti-virus sweep/scan. Trust me, in some situations it will help. Defrag is a very important maintenance procedure that you should run at least once a month. And Anti-virus scanning/sweeping will rid of those pesty spyware, adware, and unwanted intruders.

Your FPS seem fine because you are running Vista and settings on Very High is quite demanding even for a 4850. 30fps seems normal for a non overclocked system, dips of 15-20fps, I know can be annoying but try running the game on High and it should solve your problem or over clock your CPU and video card for better performance.

You can overclock on the stock heatsink...Shouldnt run into any heat problems unless you case fails lol.

Also, google "Hd 4850 fanfix" and then do what it says, jack your fan speed up to like 45%.

Did you play with AA on or off ? Run the Crysis Benchmark Tool and see how much you get. On all high no AA at 1280x1024 i get an average of 48 fps in DX9 using XP. (E6850 + HD4850 both at stock).

I turned off crossfire and i can pull high/very high with next to no lag.

Try these:

Overclock to your processer to ATLEAST 2.9 or 3.1 i reccomend, it is VERY cpu dependant.
use ATI overdrive to overclock your memory and core speeds and use the fanfix to keep the temps down.
defrag hard drive
exit all background programs
delete crap you dont need off your hard drive.

try those. and, whats your motherboard? is it Pci express? pci express 2.0?
It also totally depends on how many pins you have in your motherboard, is it a 16pin connector?

crysis is very powersupply dependant....your cpu is plenty powerful at stock and the graphics card...do you know how many amps ur powersupply can supply on a 12v rail?

your psu might be holding back ur rig...if you can tell me ur psu's name i will beable to look up and see if its powerful enough to power that radeon 4850.

I have exactly the same specs and operating system as you. I played Crysis on 1600x1200 all high and got 30+ almost everywhere.

Clock for clock it does not. There is a difference between being optimized for two cores and multi-threaded and optimized for four cores and multi-threaded. Crysis dosent utilize quads like supreme commander. Having other people on tons of other hardware sites and comparison a e7200 and a q6600 will run crysis pretty much even if the clocks are the same because crysis does not spread the workload evenly across all four cores and really only uses 2.

So only confirmation on the quadcore running crysis better was in mid 2007 from the devs themselves on some QnA that lead to a serious letdown at launch, for 1.1 patch. and 1.2 patch. One reason I refuse to buy the game overall is the bait n switch on what was supposed to work, how it was supposed to, and that it really didnt.

OP: oc the e7200. Crysis loves the clocks.

There are some reports of GPU overclocking lowering performance but how reliable i am unsure.

Not one single person outside of running unstable OC on the cpu has reported worse performance. Your 100% dead wrong in that regard. For the people who dont take the time to learn how to oc and try and run a game on a unstable cpu OC they dont matter as its their inexperience not the cpu that hurts them.
