i recently saw a 550w psu. On the side it showed two 12v and each said 19amps so does that mean the total is 38 amps? :O

no it means 19a.

for the sake of graphics cards atleast. you want one rail with alot more than 19a. for example i use a 650w with 52a on the 12v.

A 550W PSU has rails that add up to 550. A 12V at 19A is 12X19, or 228W. If that's all you had for 12V power, that would leave 550-228, or 322W for the 5V and 3.3V rails, which is ridiculous. It had two 12V rails at 19A each.

Actually all that that means is that each line can carry 19a, it does not mean the actual unit can supply enough juice to put 19a on both lines at the same time. Crappy PSU makers use this to fool people.

See how that unit has 4 16a rails. that would be 64a or 768w, more than the entire PSU is rtated for.

With a multiple rail PSU you need to look at the "combined wattage". If the PSU does not list that then it is a safe bet it is a piece of junk.

Opamando speaks truth. My post stands modified by his astute observations. But it's still not a total of 19A, of course.
