I have been looking at this game and it looks good but I would like some clarifications before I debate on buying it (i'm downloading the demo now as well).

Are the bugs/issues that were there at launch did the patches fix them? Or are there still some annoying bugs and I should just wait?

Is there an active multiplayer community?

Those are my main 2 concerns before I debate on buying it once I play the Demo. Thanks in advance to anybody who replies!

Definitely has an incredibly steep learning curve. It's a cool game but definitely not for everyone.

There are some lingering issues (clipping, etc.) but I bought the game on day one and have yet to encounter a major bug *crosses fingers*. But seriously, its in good enough shape to buy right now. Just make sure to download the patches (if you don't get it from Steam).

Secondly, the MP community for this game is exceptionally active. You will always be able to find a wealth of new missions and content, and there are always people on. The community is very dedicated.

Bottom line, I'd say buy it.

All right so 1 more question What is the multiplayer like? Is it just like 32 vs 32 players or is it all campaign or is there an article I can read about it? I'm googling to see if I can find anything but yea can't seem to see what its like. Thanks again for the responses!

Its mainly co-op, with some capture the flag, deathmatch, and capture the island (incorporates some RTS elements). If you do buy it, make sure to join a clan. Co-op is a blast, especially with fifty players(!).

I really want to get this game.
Sure its not the most polished game, but from the few hours I played at my friends, it was alot of fun.

I really enjoy realistic shooters and this is the most realistic on the market atm.

Probably will be my next purchase this game I think :P

ArmA 2 is probably one of the best games, if not the best game I've played in 10 years. Definantly worth a try.

Don't be turned off by the voice-acting. Its pretty bad, but a little better in the actual game.

I typically like games that have some reaslism. My major fault with this game was the graphics presenting a false sense of cover. The issue is grass isn't rendered at a distance, so if you happen to go prone, your vision is completely blocked; yet, someone will easily be able to spot you. The only real cover is a tree or building. Some things I did enjoy was how the AI changed strategy each mission. I was playing the first demo mission for the third time and suddenly I the ground starts flying up in my face. The entire squad was under fire by an AA gun, which had never happened before. The games content is quite impressive. I'd pick up this game if I could run it better and the grass was a bit shorter (so it didn't obstruct the view of a prone player). I know it's a fairly trivial complaint, but it's really frustrating when it's easier to spot someone who is farther away then someone who is lying prone right next to you.

I hear BIS is actually working on a patch to address this issue. That did bother me a lot to, the grass itself looked fantastic, but when you zoomed in with your scope you couldn't see any... :?

Knowing BIS's track record, I'm sure they will fix it.

It'll be nice to see. I don't mind not seeing grass in the distance (I actually don't expect to), but I would prefer that the grass didn't 'appear' to be effective cover or obstruct the view of a prone player.

Amen.

Its an issue on MP too, because it makes sniping exceptionally easy. I assume that's the main reason they want to fix this.

In regards to grass being high when prone, if you roll around with the q and e keys it sometimes flattens the grass out so you can see better. Just like in real life. There are bugs in the game, but what game hasn't been released with bugs? Patches will come, BI is a small company so it does take slightly longer. It's a very good game from the masters of military simulation.

BC2 looks like it'll prob be good. Modern warfare 2 will just be run and gun but will be fun for a bit. ARMA2 is fun but also kind of hard to get decent at just because you can die so fast.

I hated GRAW 2 campaign. It is definitely the most difficult singleplayer game I've ever played. All I remember in the demo was "Watch out for snipers on the ro-" BLAM! I liked the demo mission for ArmA2 much more, but I can't comment on the full game.

The Voice over is the same from Demo to Game, its bad yes but its not real people, ArmA uses a Text-To-Speech Engine to do Voice overs so they sound robotic because its a program talking not paid people.

ArmA II is a amazing game hope you like the demo, the 8.0 score gamespot gave it is actually pretty good I love the game but I could see Gamespot giving it a 4-5.5 for being too complex, Difficult, .etc :P

Has anyone tried ArmA 2 with the VopSound 2.1 addon? It changes all ingame sounds like weapons, environment, vehicles, helicopters etc to its real life counterparts. Hers's a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEFpeo8LWr4 and here's the link for download: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5884 The battles are so much more intense with this game, stand next to an A10 when it takes off! So has anyone else tried this addon?

I loved the original ArmA and Operation Flashpoint, and I'd get this too if I could onlt find a hard copy of it. I live in Canada and every place I've checked doesn't seem to have it. I'll probably just buy it online. I've went back to playing ArmA for now though, its still fresh. Mainly because of all the mods, I have something like 50gb of ArmA/OFP mods on my computer.

Man I can't wait to get ArmA 2. I guess I'll just settle for the demo right now.

So true, i've gone back to Arma 1 too. So many amazing mods, have you tried ACE mod? At the moment im using the Cold War Rearmed mod. It basically brings the Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis and Resistance campaign and content into ArmA.

I am enjoying this game immensily. It has a few minor issues but it doesnt take away from the play value. Loved Operation Flashpoint and ArmA 1. Extensive learning curve is an understatement.....LOL....but well worth the time spent. You can casual play or join servers that are so exact that they even make everyone wait and join convoys together and are very structured. If you want extreme tactical warfare this is the one for you!!

Yeah, this game isn't for everyone. I feel you. First time I played the demo I was so confused.

confusing, and the abilty that I can't even use some of the games functions!

You could re-map those functions to other keys. There are a lot of commands to remember, but bear in mind that you actually don't most of them on a regular basis. It's just different for people who aren't used to simulators. As a person who's played a lot of Falcon 4, this didn't seem overly complex. :P

Most pleasant surprise for me was that this thing is TrackIR compatible! So much easier to keep your head on a swivel. I've never played a shooter that employed it - just flight sims. But as usual, I'm not buying it right now. I'll file it in the 'pick up later' category and wait for the price to come down, the patches to come out, and the user community to create content.
