The player base crumbled just like every other MMO that attempts to duplicate WoW.

You believe what one person says? How strange.

Never played the game but you'd be much better off to do some research on your own.

I asked two forums the same question and I wanted to mainly know how many people play the game. One person answered and said very little. You are correct in that I should ask others because very little can mean front lines fuel of war little amount of people or crysis wars little amount of people. What do you think of the population of lotro?

Very good PvE MMO...I repeat PVE !!! Dont expect great PvP from LOTRO, but the lore...environment and additional things to do is amazing. Community is very active and mature.... Try the trial and see....

I bought it recently and dropped after 1 week. If you come from a MMORPG background then you won't be impressed (no, I dont play wow). The only thing its got going for itself is mature community and LOTR lore... so if you want LOTR lore then you MIGHT enjoy it but the game is bland, basicly the combat is BLAND, the animations are weak, spell/combat effects weak, good environmental graphics but thats about it. I found EQ2 10x more engaging, and even Vanguard was more engaging then LOTR (for me) and that was a big flop.

I have to disagree on the blandness. It has a charm to it, and the quests have more story involved than most mmorpgs. The book quests and many of the big instances are just stunning. I have had some of the most fun group adventures I have ever had in this game. Even many of the solo quests are an adventure. This expansion has jam packed the game with endgame content.

As a current player, I have seen a surge in the population since the expansion. If you go to mmorpg.com and check the forum there for the game, you will see lots more players saying the same thing. This is a very well-populated game.

its not that LORO is a bad game..its just not that interesting. Youre better off playing EQ2 or Warhammer which are both excellent.

Sounds like youve played WoW and had your fill of that type of MMO.

I suggest you look into EVE online. It might be the differnt type of MMO youre looking for. If you can get past the steep learning curve (go join a corporation early, they can be very helpful...and DO THE TUTORIAL!) its a very rewarding gamewith an excellent community and a lot of depth. There is a good free trial out and I think you can get it off Steam for like 20 bucks or something and it contines off your trial (14 days free trial, plus 30 days included with game purchase, equals 44 days for 20 bucks).

I know you came looking for answers about LOTRO but it seems like youre looking for an MMO in general. LOTRO is good, but like people said the community is small and spread out over too many servers. Its also too mature in some ways; nobody really jokes around and socializes, its all business really.
