And I was probably the happiest person alive. Hooked it up, popped in King Kong, played AWESOME. Got so excited, and went to check out some movies to buy and.....

wow there aren't that many good ones.. Maybe like 15 i can find that i want. And every commercial I see is always "Coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray". What's the deal? Is this dead already? I mean honestly im not hard to please with movies, but I just cant find many in this selection. Sure theres a lot of old movies that are great...but not really worth seeing for the 20th time just crystal clear this time around. And do I really need Billy Madison with 5.1?

Can someone just reassure me that this isnt 200 bucks wasted?

I mean, no Die Hard, no Resident Evil, no 3:10 to Yuma, and I saw the list of companies that are backing which, and Blu-ray BLOWS HD-DVD out of the water. HD-DVD is like MS, Toshiba, and what was it, paramount? is that it?

Edit: and Universal and all the aforementioned companies little sister companies as well.

but still, it all sounds awesome on players, and everyone is saying "HD-DVD will become peoples standard and preferred" but i dont see why they are saying that when Blu-Ray is getting more hits and sales.

I think you should try different stores there are plenty of good movies on HD-DVD, new and old. A lot of movie houses are not exclusive to either blu-ray or HD-DVD.

Many titles can be imported on HD-DVD that are Blu exclusives in this country, I do know off hand that resident evil can be bought as a german import on HD-DVD.

You might as well return you HD DVD player and save yourself the money. Hopefully you still have the reciept. With Warner now backing Blu Ray exclusively, the format war is over, HD DVD will be dead in a month

This format war is soooo f-ing stupid. Hey man at least you HD-DVD guys got the movie Shooter. I want that movie on blu-ray so badly but Paramount had to just go and jump ship. Shooter for blu-ray is going for 60 to 100 bucks on ebay now.

Watch them on your HD DVD player. That is what you bought it for... to watch HD DVD movies. It is not just going stop working if the HD DVD format dies.

Add planet earth to that collection  also the above poster is right, it's not like you won't be able to watch all of these movies in HD anymore. I found out about warner bros. going Blu-Ray exclusive after may and guess what i did today...bought transformers in HD-DVD. i'm still gonna enjoy my HD-DVD f it.

I kind of hope there is a fire sale on HD-DVD players and movies...heh heh heh...at least HD-DVD had some minimal quality standards for their format from the get go.

HD-DVD is about to be done... this rumor about Paramount jumping off the ship might close the casket.

That's why I waited until the was already decided. I didn't want to have a bunch of HD-DVD movies and a bunch of Blu-Ray movies. I want my movies to play on one device.

I am one of those people sitting on the fence. I also dont want to have to worry about having several different types of discs to play and different machines to play them on.

I hope that very soon one of these comes out on top. Although it looks unlikely this will happen, maybe someone will be able to unite the two competing formats and have them agree to endorse a combination of the two formats together. Isnt that what happened with DVD's? Sony, Philips, and Toshiba agreed on supporting one platform with modifications from each company...

The fact that these two formats exist at the same time is really hurting the consumer a lot. Esspecially since HDTV's are finally becoming popular and people want to take full advantage of their new HDTV's--the only way for them to do so is to buy one or the other of the two formats and cross their fingers that they dont waste their money.

It also clearly must be hurting the companies involved because of so many people reluctant to comit to one or the other (who would otherwise have bought one) are waiting.

Heres to hoping these companies come to their senses and agree to combine their efforts sometime very soon.

HD-DVD will be extinct by the end of the year

Now that Warner went Blu Ray only, the majority is blu ray, Paramount and Universal will follow. It was in their contract to do so
