Alright, so as a christmas present, I got a new gaming PC. I've never really seriously gamed on the PC, only some TF2 on my laptop. I'll list the specs first, but I've got a few other questions too.

OS:Windows 8

CPU:i5-3470 @3.6 GHz

RAM: 8GB

HDD:1 TB

Monitor:22' LG LCD 1920x1080

Video card:nVIDIA Geforce GT 620

I've played Half Life 2 and GMOD so far tonight, with amazing performance. All high settings, no lag spikes or low FPS whatsoever. However, there are some games I am looking to get now. How well can this PC perform with Skyrim, Starcraft II, Tribes: Ascend, and perhaps Dishonored?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Which gpu do you have? Half Life 2 is fairly easy to max out so that doesn't indicate much. Edit: Ah okay you edited in. That's a bit underpowered, I would upgrade when you get a chance. Off the top of my head I don't believe that meets the minimum specs for Dishonored. I think it'll run Starcraft II and Skyrim, just not super well.

Ah, when do you think would be a good time to upgrade it?

lulz as soon as it becomes affordable to do so. for 100 bucks you can mop the floor with a gt620 and then play game on medium or better

As soon as you have the money. :P A GTX 650 is a nice little card if you don't want to spend a lot of money. $150 after a rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130840 That would run all of the games you listed quite well. It also doesn't require a strong PSU which is nice. And since I'm guessing its a pre-built desktop, it should have a strong enough PSU already. I think 500w would suffice. I'd wait for more opinions to flow in though just in case someone has a better option. Usually someone pops in the thread with a stronger GPU for like half the price somehow..

First of all, welcome to the Dark Side

Second of all like many here have already mentioned the GFX card does seem a little weak in comparison to the rest of the build. But not to worry you can make do with what you've got for the time being.

I don't think you should have much of a problem running the games you want, either turn down some graphical settings or the resolution. Oh and happy gaming my good friend

The GPU you have will be able to play pretty much anything, just not at high settings or FPS. Upgrade as soon as you can :P

You will probably have to upgrade your PSU too.Make sure you don't put a new gpu in that pc before ensuring that the PSU can handle it.

Alright, thanks everyone for the advice! I haven't had any trouble running games, the only thing I've had to tweak is to turn down the settings for some.
