I'm just going to answer the title directly.
I loved Dark Messiah. Its one of my favorite games. In spite of that, it fell short on a TON of potential. I think they nailed first person melee/magic better then any game up to this point. Skyrim is actually very satisfying in melee, considering Oblivion sucked a big one. Warband I put about equal with Skyrim on the combat. And as it is with DMoMM, Combat is what its all about.
To that end, if you feel the same way as me, check out this game (Kingdoms of Amalur: Recoking)

I actually know very little about the game. I've read a bit about the character progression a month or some ago and it sounded really cool. Very open ended and up to the player to decide what you are as a fighter. Very much so like DMoMM, but with more skill paths it seems. I kinda said "Eh, cool" and shrugged it off and never looked again until I saw the combat trailer today. If you actually watch the diary up to the end you can really see some kick ass combat and it is explained pretty well. It reminds me of a hybrid DMoMM and Devil May Cry combat. Its suposed to have substantial RPG elements as well (beyond combat skills, ie story etc)
