Well, at least I think so. Similar thing happened to my brothers one a while back. And conveniently out of its warranty. Thank you XFX. So, heres the deal. I turn on my PC, everythings connected, and nothing happens. Lights come on, no system beeps and nothing on the monitor. So after troubleshooting for a while I replace the gpu just out of curiosity with an old geforce 6200 i had lying about. God knows why I still have it but hey! And yes, system starts, no problems everything is fine. Has anyone else had any similar problems with the 8800 gts models after a year to two years after owning them? Also, I need to find another card possibly on par or better for relatively cheap. My budget is around 50-100 pounds but I would prefer the lower end of that scale, my bank doesn't like me too much at the moment. Any help would be appreciated and I'm sorry for the wall of text. Gamespot doesn't like my apparant bad HTML.

XFX should have lifetime warranties if you registered your card, I would call up their customer support.

Yeah, I thought it was a lifetime warranty. According to the support ticket on the XFX website, the technician said it was August 2008. Which would mean it had a 1 year warranty! Thats awful. So I've replied to the ticket moaning on about consumer's rights and this and that, and hopefully it'll get me somewhere. I thought XFX were suppose to be decent? Thats why I went with them.

Yes its only a 1 year warranty if you don't register your card (which takes like 5 minutes) then its a double lifetime warranty, which means you and the person you sell the card to get lifetime warranties.

Ah I see. However I have to register my card to open a ticket, so isn't that a bit double sided? Either way, from scratch they should consider my ticket for a repair or replacement for the simple reason I can prove my purchase. I can see no other reason why they wouldn't.

There is a reason they include manuals and have a website. You would be lucky if they decided to help you. Its your own fault for not registering.

I hardly see how it is my fault for not registering. Basic consumer rights doesn't mean registering a piece of hardware because the manufacturer feels threatened by small town pirates that try to con the system. Edit: Hell, registering makes it just feel like a DRM!

What? Thats ridiculous! Consumer Rights? srsly? If you would have read all the paper work then you would have probably known to register. Its like signing a contract without ever reading it. Besides a life time warranty and all you have to do is register! Your just mad cause you messed up. Just grab a 5770

Ofcourse I'm mad! I spent 170 on that 2 years ago and I expect it to last longer than that! Call me cheap, I don't care. I'm up **** creak financially at the moment. And yes, consumer rights, manufacturers piss all over their consumers and they're the ones that keep them in business. It's ludicrous. As for the paperwork, after reading that last post I just dug out the box from under my bed and there's actually nothing in there explaining to register it. XFX suck, plain and simple there should be no need to register. I have my invoice, that's enough for the proof of purchase.

Now what if one of appliances break after the the 5 year warrenty was over with, you expect the the manufacturer to replace or repair that item out of their own pockets? No they wont, its the same principle. Because you didnt read the the warranty terms you blame XFX to go out on a limb and spend their dime for something thats your responsibility to fulfil your part and didnt? I understand that your angry, but its not XFX's fault that you didnt register. About 3 or so years ago my XFX 7600gs died directly from a old CRT sending a surge and damaging the card. And since I registered the card I had no issue getting a replacement from them.

I just pulled out my box from my 8800GTS, and I am surprised to find that there is nothing talking about registering for a lifetime warranty. But also it does not say anything about a lifetime warranty period, so if you were curious about the warranty to find out anything about it you would need to visit the website to find out. Try talking to different people at XFX and explain the situation, maybe if you tell them you still have your invoice they will let you slide. They let my buddy register his 8800GT later than he was supposed to, it was still working and he was only 3 months late, but they let him register......hell it's worth a shot. I feel for you, but XFX is a decent company at worst and pretty darn good in my experiences. I know the register for the warranty seems a little messed up, but all the companies I am aware of with lifetime warranties do it, BFG and EVGA, so it's not like it is anything new.

I thought XFX's Lifetime warranty only applied to the States and Canada? It's been a while since I looked, but I thought that's how they functioned. I think in Europe it's only 1 year. I've got 2 8800GTS 512 cards that I have had since February of 2008; so just over 2 years for me and they both still work fine. My two cards are from Evga, by the way.
