And i don't have half the comp it needs to run. I'm this close from buying a new one just for it (and others yet to come), but i'm afraid that if i buy one right now, it won't be good enough to run the later games i want, like RAGE and Doom 4.

I can make a good one for about 1500$

INTEL I7 860
ASUS P7P55D-E
HYPER X 1600MHZ 4GB
WDC 1TB BLACK 64MO SATA3
ATI HD 5850 1GB
Power Supply CORSAIR TX 650Watts
+ windows 7

But i'm really out of the computer building thing since a couple of years and like i said, i don't know if this is a good time to buy a new comp, the only PC games that i want are the following:

Starcraft II
Diablo III
Rage
Doom 4
Civilization 5
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Napoleon: Total War
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

You're probably thinking 1500$ is alot of money for only 8 games. But let me tell you that i will be playing Civ 5, SCII and Diablo III for years to come when i'll have them.

So what do you guys think, should I invest in a new comp ? You think this one i spec'd will be enough to play at good settings the games i mentionned and maybe others who have yet to be announced ?

If you're just getting this computer for gaming, and nothing to deal with video/graphics rendering and the like, you're better off just getting the i5 750 to cut some costs. They're both pretty much the same processor, while the i5 750 doesn't have Hyper Threading.

Also, I don't know how much you'll save by doing this, but get the SATAII version of the Caviar Black instead. The SATA3 version isn't worth the added premium, imo, as the increased read/write speeds are very minimal. Better yet, get the HD103SJ from Samsung, as it is one of the faster platter drives out there.

Lastly, that motherboard is good, but if you are planning to add a second GPU in the future, then the second 4x PCI-e slot will bottleneck your card. I would recommend looking into the newly released P55A-G55 from MSI. It's much better for the money, and the PCI-e slots will run at 8x/8x, which will perform better compared to 16x/4x.

That computer would be playing anything you throw at it for a long time, but you should make it AMD based, and save some money. Use this motherboard and grab one of these CPUs.Then to top it off, I suggest you ditch the 5850 and go for the HD 5870So I think it's worth it, and for the money, you'll be getting a beast of a machine. Good luck with your build.

Thx guys. I will take good notes of what you said. The 5850 is like 300$ tho, while the 5870 is like 500. I don't wanna spend that much on a graphic card :/

The one I posted is only $380. The extra $80 is really worth it in this situation, especially after the money you would save going to an AMD based system. The only $500 versions of the card have 2GB. of memory, and really doesn't make a difference if your only running on one monitor. But, nonetheless, if you get the 5850, you won't be disappointed, as it is also a very strong GPU.

Well i look on bestbuy.ca and it's 500$+ for the 5870, even the 5850 is 399$...

I'll try to look elsewhere.

So that would be

I5 750

MSI P55A-G55 OR MSI 790GX-G65

HYPER X 1600MHZ 4GB

HD103SJ from Samsung

ATI HD 5850 1GB

Power Supply CORSAIR TX 650Watts

+ windows 7

we here in the pc gaming world have a fun little game we polay call "system requirements" you see when games finally near completion we get their requirements not years in advance (omitting perhaps mr fail over at EA with bf1943 but i digress).

so like deus ex we have no idea.. sc2 we do and that ssytem is about a billion times stronger doom 4 again no requirements but considering its meybe got a skeleton crew at id working on it dont expect anything spectacular. and rage looks to be in the same boat as doom 4 so yeah of the games lsited those who will probably be msot demanding we cant safely say how demanding they could be.

Starcraft 2 is going to be intentionally underengineered, or at least really scalable. Blizzard likes to pride itself on having games that even old computers can play well (on lower settings anyways)... post your current specs, like the above guy said.

I don't know about Doom 4, but if an Xbox 360 can run Rage at 60 frames per second, your good.

yep, my wife has a shuttle computer running an athlon 64 2800+ and a geforce 6600GT, we fully intend on seeing if it will run on that, if not, then she gets a new computer so we can 2v2 some AI and what not.

I can play SCII on everything on low settings, but it gets laggy when there's more then 30 units on the map. I have a 7 years old comp, pentium 4 D 3.0GHz, p4p-e800 asus, ati x850 XT and 2048 RAM. And ionusx, i didn't understood crap of anything you've said...

Ohh, sorry then for my bantering. Well the 5870 is defiantly worth it if you can fit it in your budget, but if not, anything from the 5770 on up is a good choice IMO.

Why don't you want to build? It's like putting together lego dude and would only cost you like 700-800 bucks.

Instead of intel i7 get AMD processors those with 6 cores and your savings can be upgraded for a better video card like a 5870 or a 5970. I also recommend to get a cheaper power supply. Ive been working with computers with 9 years and although corsair are reliable. They are brand name that is hyped by pc consumers. Just get a regular power supply with same watts and enough pins to fill your video card and youll be set to go. Antec does the job for me perfect.

Starcraft 2 won't require high video memory to run but if you want to spend money make sure you get a good GPU that will last you a few years because GPU's are more important than CPU's for gamers these days.

PC building might have less steps involved, but it's far more difficult to approach for people who aren't used to the process. It's hard to screw up with Legos; you would have to try hard to break something, and if you do, the worst that happens is you're Lego project is missing a couple Legos or you're out a couple bucks. I can think of quite a few ways computer nubs can mess up once the case is opened, and the worst that can happen is you get electrocuted or fry the system and it costs hundreds to fix. And that's not even including the whole science of picking out PC parts, which includes a 6 week correspondency course on choosing a graphics card...

Ok well i've been looking around, and for about 1340$ taxes included, this is what i can get. Processor: Intel Quad Core i5 750 $219.99 motherboard: Asus p7p55 LX $122.99 RAM: Kingston KHX1600C9D3K2/4Gx $129.99 HDD: Sata3 WD 1.0TB 64MB $93.99 Graphic card: Sapphire ATI HD5770 1G $189.99 turret: Antec three hundred $76.99 Power supply: ULTRA lifetime series pro 650 watts $82.99 windows 7 premium $129.99 External harddrive 1TB $92.99 I know the external harddrive isn't part of the comp but i need one so i'm including it in the overall price of the comp. So what do you guys think ??? I know most will say to get a more powerful card but this one already can run everything right now, and the 200$ i will save on this one, i will be able to put back in a new video card in 2 years who will be much more powerful.
