So Syndicate is a shooter now....

I bet some fans of the original games aren't very happy about this, while I don't really mind the change (never played Syndicate and Syndicate Wars) I'm still a tad disappointed that it won't be the same strategy game it was, there's more than enough shooters in the market and I'm not too keen on another one.

So, what are your thoughts on this surprising new direction?

The indie devs will make us a much better syndicate successor anyway. Just watch, someone out there is probably planning on making one right now as a responce to this game as we speak.

But if I am wrong. I will be really, really sad.

I'm still waiting for a Baldur's Gate TPS with a cover system. And where's my Battlefield puzzle game? /sarcasm

Honestly, all this genre shifting is getting a bit ridiculous now, eh devs? I mean, there are some games that could be remade quite well as a First Person experience, like the Blade Runner game (first person 'adventure' games are possible), but shoe-horning a strategy title into the FPS hole - well, you just know it isn't going to fit right, like a square peg in a round hole.

The Command & Conquer: Renegade spin-off only just managed it, but even then it was somewhat lacking, and I seem to recall they ditched a second outing.

I really can't wait for the "visceral" Alpha Centauri FPS. C'mon EA you know you want it!

We've collectively been pretty sure Starbreeze was making this for the last year - given that it's Starbreeze, I'm not really sure what else to expect than a FPS. :( That said, it could still be good, since it's Starbreeze and Riddick was awesome.Makari

Im not happy about it at all, I was really hoping for a proper sequel when I heard it was being made, not a FPS using the Syndicate name in order to try and sell it.

The game might end up being really good, but for now I have absolutely no interest in it.

Whats next then? Cannon Fodder FPS with 4 player coop?. Tetris FPS where you throw bricks at people?

This game is missing the spirit of the game if it doesn't have any strategy aspects. I'm okay with them using the Syndicate universe/lore, but it would be nice to have a true sequel in the series.

The syndicate games are some of my favorite games of all time... The rumors have been flying around for a long time, that this would happen. But when it was confirmed, and saw the halfarsed backstory bit, It felt as if my heart stopped for a moment. Seriously, is there any genres left that devs can mess up? If there are, you cn count on them finding it.

I loved Syndicate, especially the original one. I remeber spending hour upon hours just playing that game, sleeping past 3AM (cause I had classes the next day). Really cool game.. but now an FPS?!?! WTH?? Bring backPeter Molyneux!

If it was just your typical FPS I would be disappointed, but with Starbreeze behind it I am 100% interested

It's made by Starbreeze, even their worse games are kind of awesome. I can't wait.

I dont see why they cant release it.

2K havent done anything about Xenonauts, despite its massive similarities to X-Com: Ufo Defense. It wont share the same name or universe, but it will have very similar gameplay to the original and possibly expand upon some ideas, and that is perfectly acceptable to make.

Alas Starbreeze has been picked to pieces since The Darkness.

If so, that's terrible news and I'm pretty much giving up on the game right now. :D

Did a bunch of devs scatter to other studios, or worse?

I've seen decent hype though, but I think games like Twisted Metal and Mass Effect 3 have sucked most of the hype from gamers.

Wasn't Syndicate going to be a shooter in the first place? Don't worry, it will be a very different shooter from what we have in the market.

A Syndicate revamp that looked and felt a bit like DoWII would have been a worthy sequel, but I'm interested to see how the FPS pans out.
