So, the 2600XT's are finally out. Should I get one?

I was looking the 2600XT's benchmarks a while ago and liked what I saw, besides DX10 that is. I think it is pretty much my best bet for a graphics card as I don't have a 6 pin PCI-e power plug on my PSU. My question is, should I even bother getting a 2600XT or is there something better out there?

P.S. I have a PCI Express slot if you couldn't figure it out.

If you're going to do either the mid-range DirectX 10 parts, it may actually be a good idea to buy a pair and do SLi/CF.

The performance with each of them in single-card just isn't very good for the money. They just don't perform to the level of the mid-range cards like last generation.

But get a pair together and you'd have (mostly) the performance of a single 8800/HD 2900 for a good chunk less money. Yes, there will be some games that will obviously be better if you'd have gone with a single high-end card. But a pair of 8600GT's that perform close to a single 88800gts for $200? hard to beat.

A single HD 2600/8600GT on a desktop? not so much.

I guess I should have paid $50 for my motherboard to get that extra PCI-e slot.. So, if I can't SLi or CrossFire should I bother getting one of these cards? Keep in mind that I currently have intigrated graphics so almost anything is an improvement.

Hell, go buy a x1950PRO or 7950GT. DX10 won't be standard for years. But if you need DX10, Mid-range isn't the way to go. Mid-range sucks this time around. get a 8800GTS 320

I'm not looking for DX10 gaming. I'm just looking for a solid DX 9 gaming experience. The problem, like I said above, is that my PSU doesn't have a 6 pin PCI-E connector. And upgrading it isn't an option. I'm just wondering if the 2600XT is the best card in my situation.

P.S. Is there really any performance difference between GDDR3 and GDDR4?

Get the HD 2600XT 512mb GDDR4 that would be a pretty good card right there.

No... but two HD 2600XT's in CrossFire (in some games) may be able to match what a single HD 2900 would do.

Or two 8600GT's would be within 10fps of what a single 8800GTS would do.

But at worst, it would still be a ways behind.

Either way, for the price/performance, an HD 2600 CrossFire or an 8600GT/S SLi isn't such a bad idea. Either in single-card would suck, though.

Not if you're willing to turn down some graphical settings @ 1280x1024 or play at 1024x768.
