...for PS3?!?!
Didn't Valve say that the surprise was PC related?!?!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Look at it in this way, they promised a surprise for PC gamers and they announced Portal 2 for PS 3 thus PC gamers were surprised, because there was no surprise :P.

Lol, woops
lemme quote gabe
In 2007, Newell openly expressed his displeasure over developing his software for gaming consoles, particularly the PlayStation 3. In regard to the system, Newell was once quoted as claiming that developing processes for the console in general was "a waste of everybody's time" and "a disaster on many levels ... I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it'."
No, he said that "The PS3 version of Portal 2 will be the best on any console". The keyword there is "console". As for why Gabe suddenly had a change of heart, I'd assume that Sony showed him just how deep their pockets are. That or they showed him how large their all-you-can-eat buffet line is.I know right and then he was like "The PS3 version of Portal 2 will be the best."

Maybe or maybe not, but we still got our "surprise" ;) if there won't be another secret surprise then this was it.I bet Gabe is looking at this thread right now..."suckaaazzzzz!"

Hahaha the buffet! It has to be!
Okay, A) The original portal was on the PS3 anyway. B) He actually said that the PS3 version of portal would be the best CONSOLE version; there was a shot of Gabe from the side with his fingers crossed behind his back, Gabe is a PC man at heart and that won't change. C) Why the hate for more people getting to experience the same great games? Valve aren't a dumb developer that will remove features from the PC version because the title sells more on a certain console, they are smarter than that. Your irrational reaction isn't really giving them much credit for anything. D) Everyone got out of hand expecting a big Half Life revelation, when in every single press release regarding the surprise it was always referred to as being Portal 2 themed. People just got dumb and went nuts. Valve time exists, we know the game is coming, chill out and look forward to Portal 2.I know right and then he was like "The PS3 version of Portal 2 will be the best."
ralph2190
Gabe isn't a very good person. He didn't support PS3 to reach a 35 million user base and now He wants to milk the cows. Maybe since PS3 is immune to piracy is even more attractive.
But is fine, since as a PC player that doesn't like Valve games and doesn't use Steam I really don't care about his decissions.

Yeah you're right but I'm pretty sure I've seen mention of the surprise being PC related. Or maybe that was bogus too.
Heh well when you expect a PC surprise you don't expect it to be for a console, and while I don't hate the ps3 for getting portal it means less development time for pc games which is my primary platform so I'd rather valve just focus on the pc.
Exactly. So wtf is he doing. Suddenly had a change of heart? lame..
ralph2190
Suddenly? It's been THREE YEARS....people change their minds. Gabe didn't have any kind words for the 360 either, but Valve still made games for it. In fact, the only console Valve praised was the Wii and it's the only console that will never see a Valve release.

Or maybe that was bogus too.ralph2190You're correct, there was a bit saying that it would only interest PC gamers. It was just a ploy to make people not suspect Valve to show up at Sony's conference of all places. As of 2 hours ago, people still thought of Valve as disliking the PS3; if anywhere, Valve would've shown up at Microsoft's conference like last year. Everyone fell for the surprise.
I think the big surprise was not only that Portal 2 is coming to PS3, but that Steam is coming to PSN.
Steam is not coming to PS3. Portal 2 will be Steamworks enabled on PS3I think the big surprise was not only that Portal 2 is coming to PS3, but that Steam is coming to PSN.

Oh, my bad. I misunderstood what Gabe was saying.

Yeah but it's still a kick in the balls to us PC gamers. E3 is nothing more than a gathering of console fanboys.
Here's a Portal 2 walkthrough:
http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/64330/portal-2/videos/e310_portal2_demo_01_061510.html?show=hi
The animation dropped my jaw..
Edit: An arsenal input of ingenuity within Portal 2.
same thing can be said to Hideo Kojima :PGabe isn't a very good person. He didn't support PS3 to reach a 35 million user base and now He wants to milk the cows.

well actually, somone was right...
Say good by to PC getting much support valve has turned to the darkside. :(
Empirefrtw
I'm concerned about that as well.
I know Gabe probably still sees the PC as his preferred platform, but getting praised by Sony along with the money generated by the PS3 version, only to look into his inbox to see a thousand PC gamer nerd rage e-mails asking about Half-Life 2 Episode 3, Source Engine 2 and how **** the surprise was.
The PC community is its own worse enemy.
Anyway, the IGN footage looked really great. Can't wait for it.
[QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"]Wow it looks very good.Here's a Portal 2 walkthrough:

agreed
Valve has the ability to just make things look much better than anyone else. They have something that goes beyond the most cutting edge visuals, good art direction, etc.
There is just no way to cla$$ify it.
