Are gamers just in the crossfire? Is it going to get worse? Hows it going to end? What will be have to endure? What do you think? Where is all this going? And if hackers are stealing money from gamers - should we be supporting their efforts? I mean some people deserve it...(Epic games, mushahaha) but others like Codemasters...dont. So? lol Dont get too angry with my last two comments. haha.

At this point, it's looking like they're various hackers trying to take advantage of the extra attention hacking has been getting lately to get famous.

Will get much worse.

Until they start tracking down and punishing the hackers and not giving them high paying jobs it won't stop :P

They're either at war with "The Man" or they're doing it for monetary gain. That's my guess.

They arent at war with anyone. Selling personal information is profitable. Even worse is selling card details if they get them.

I'd say it's more for fame than anything else. Since this PSN thing, they all seem to be jumping on the bandwagon. Maybe their just anarchists trying to bring down the computer revolution, i don't know but it gets on my nerves when they try to undermine and undo all the great work industry majors do.

Lulzsec is one that annoys me the most because of their blatant self-publicity. They hacked FBI affiliated website InfraGard only to make a point about their opinions of the US government and then preceded to vandalise their website with childish messages - a sort of "we waz 'ere" statement.

I don't think it really achieves anything except taking away the enjoyment of legit consumers by forcing crackdowns on cyber terrorism with software such as DRM.

Right now I'd say they are at war with each other. Since Sony, it's all become a game on one-upsmanship - Not necessarily being malicious (though no doubt some are), but who can hack the highest profile target (Nintendo, even the NHS).

But once the "Bragging Rights" phase dies down, we'll either see not a lot happen or a whole lot more criminal activity if corporations don't take note.

Hahahahaha. Oh snap. But alright, so its all a flash game where they are all trying to get their images out and up. Is there no one fighting for "justice"? If we were to take the cliche.

For the most part they seem to just be nihilists or profiteers. They're hypocrites themselves and nothing really justifies their actions. Hopefully the law can catch up with them and start rounding them up sooner or later.

They just fight against "the establishment". Goverments, big corporations, just any powerful group. They are really just activists. They just send their message with hacking instead of protesting in front of buildings. With the internet hackers can get away with a lot. There isn't much of a tracking system online and ip addresses can be faked, so many times there is no way for authorities to find out where the person was hacking from. Hackers are also spread out all over the world, so even if they do know where they are they have to worry about all kinds of jurisdiction issues. Getting the other country to cooperate, communicating with foreign police, etc. Yes, some hackers do it for money, but I think the majority just have a message they want to send using their version of scare tactics.

Hackers aren't bad, but there are bad people who are hackers. Cops have guns, so do criminals. Soldiers kill people, so do terrorists. 13 year old kids deface websites, criminals steal your credit card information because Amazon stores it in clear text(I don't know if they encrypt or not its just an example). It sounds like most of you are trying to turn something very grey into black and white. This is not a black and white issue it is most definately a grey area. Criminals have always been around, people have always protested, kids will always be kids. The internet is just a new medium for that to occur in.

The main thing is companies aren't taking data confidentiality seriously. If there was a law that would allow me to, I would sue Sony. Their behavior(and others) is not exceptable(thanks for the free games though ^_^). I keep my birth certificate, SSN, bank info, etc. in a safe place. I would hope that the companies I trust would do the same with the information I let them have.

Also I'm behind Anon 100% Westboro Baptist can go f*** themselves.
