I've always loved games like World in Conflict and Company of Heroes, but I can never sit through a game of Command & Conquer 3, Supreme Commander, or Universe At War without getting bored. I've always like realistic type RTS games, but I just get bored really fast with futuristic RTS games. Anyone else the same way?

Im the opposite, I perfer sci-fi themed RTS over any generic WWI-II crap. There are only so many 'KILL ZEE RUSSIANS/GERMANS' games before they become stale and lack luster.

I enjoy RTS that takes place in a medieval environment. Well it can also be ancient, or modern, but I prefer medieval. I have played futuristic RTS too, but, as you, I got bored fast.

I also play other types of games, like RPG, city-building, turn base strategy, economic strategy (I am not sure if this last one is an official game genre, but I talk about games where you take a company and try to build a financial empire). But as before I don't like them to be futuristic.

I don't care really. As long as it doesn't get to the point of there being some end all be all superweapon that gets spammed. Until someone finally dies. There has to be balance. Otherwise Sci-Fi is fine.

Haha, love the Snatch reference "ZEE GERMANS?"

Personally, I dont like Medieval RTS games. Modern and Sci-fi is fine by me. Although, I cannot stress enough how much I HATED Supreme commander, worst RTS ever.

I prefer sci-fi games and futuristic settings, when you have real world weapons and situations developers tend to sacrifice gameplay for realism, not as much with sci-fi in my experience.

You talk about realism like its a bad thing, its realism that makes games like World in Conflict so great.

The more Space Marines the better. Age of Empires III would have been much better with Space Marines.

i'm an open minded gamer and don't care much about the setting whether it's sci-fi, fantasy, etc. as long as it's a good game.

SoB put them both to shame ^^"

seriously though, I don't believe realism is an iusse. every game is working under realism as long as it takes as background a believable world. all games are fictional and no RTS has approach "real" realism yet.

WiC, realsitic? no human soldiers can possibly cover that much ground by foot with such short time, ever. when ever do you see those soldiers camp and rest in WiC and CoH?

the issue is about subject matter. Fantasy, Sci-fi or historical...but I don't have a preference. as long as the game is good.

Universe At War is fantastic. The three alien races have a great design.

But C&C3 sucks.

I liked Universe At War when I played it. didn't really like things like Total War or SupCom, though.

I dislike RTSes that take place in modern times or WWII. I love Sci Fi rtses and RTSes that take place further back in time, like the AoE games. Also, SupCom = Best RTS to come out for years. I want a sequel dammit!

The game setting is not important to me.

I like Sci-Fi and Medieval/Classical Age settings more than WW2 (for now). But I prefer Company of Heroes, a WW2 RTS to all but one RTS that isn't scifi. That's how little the setting matters to me: a.k.a it doesn't matter to me at all.

a.k.a. wasn't the right abbreviation for that sentence, you were looking for ie.

o/ Captain Kieran, He's our hero, reducing our Grammar errors, Down to Zero! o/

But yeah, Supreme Commander = My favourite RTS at the moment. I really need to buy the expansion pack soon.

I like several kinds of rts to be honest. Everything from Battle for Middle Earth to Age of Empires/Mythology to Red Alert to Starcraft.

I like star craft too. And I wait impatiently for SC 2. So I don't exclude futuristic games from start. There can be some that I enjoy, SC was one off them and I am sure i will like SC 2.

You know why I actually prefer games that take place in medieval, ancient, modern, WWII? Because I recognize the stuff there, because the stuff there were real things. And here I mean: swords, bows, rifles, tanks, machineguns, hammers, armours, axes, firethrowers, etc. Those things actually existed.

But you can't say that about a ray gun, an anti-mater bomb, a laser sword or a laser gun. The design off those weapons, the way they work, and the impact that they have is the product off imaginations. Now don't get me wrong, I don't say that it is stupid to try to imagine the future, actually it is a good thing, for something to become a reality, to be invented, first someone has to imagine it.

So everybody has it's tastes and preferences. The good thing is that there are a lot off different games out there so that our tastes and preferences are satisfied.
