Now that the news is out that Valve will be including a free copy of the PC version with the ps3 version do you feel inclined to purchase that version? My GF loved the first portal but she doesn't have a PC near powerful enough to play it so I think I'll just grab this so we can play co-op :D

"PlayStation 3 users who buy Portal 2 will be able to download a PC or Mac copy of the game for free, provided they link their PlayStation Network and Steam accounts"

Im pretty sure that it will also work the other way around... remember steam will be on PS3... you unlock the PS3 version if you buy the PC version.... that would make sense

I have no ps3 so should I buy it for ps3 ...... I don'tz no

DeViLzzz
Haha, no. You need a PSN account to bind to your steam account. Otherwise you're stuck with an empty CD you can't do nothing with.

Don't have a Ps3 anymore. sold it a while back, so no.

It's a cool idea though. Valve is shrewd.

PC version will almost defiantly have steam achievements like all recent valve games and they even patched hl2 to include them and like all the recent valve games will support the 360 controller as well if you feel inclined to play it with a controller.

It won't work the other way round ie buy the PC version and get the PS3 version. The problem is the console licence fee, Sony recieve a $10 royalty fee for every copy produced. So if you buy the PC version for $49 and get the PS3 version (which is usually $59.99) someone has to pay the extra $10 to Sony and I can't see Valve rushing to do that.

The only reason they can give the PC version away free is because there is no royalty fee. So you buy the PS3 version for $59, Sony gets it's 10 bucks royalty fee and Valve gets it's money and chucks a copy of the PC version in for free.

Another thing to note is that the PS3 is NOT GETTING Steam, it is getting STEAMWORKS which is a suite of applications but it is not getting Steam like PC gamers experience it.

I personally don't know what to make of this, it doesn't really affect me since I don't own a console but it's Valve's product and they can do what they like. I just hope they appreciate this is going to kill PC sales of Portal 2. I mean who in their right mind would buy the PC version when you can get the PS3 and PC version for 10 bucks more ?

Price?

Well, I think it's reasonably safe to assume that, as with most games, it'll be about £10 more than the PC version. Which for both versions of the game, I think is perfectly reasonable.

Hmm, I don't know about that. I'm gonna assume the PS3 version will cost around £40 whilst the PC version will be around the £20-25 region

as to answer the tc question it depends on how much portal 2 cost on release and what the difference in price between the 2 is.

That's pretty neat actually, really strong marketing push for PC gamers to buy the ps3 version. I'm not really sure though because the retail price of portal 2 on ps3 here will likely be twice that of portal 2 on steam. In that sense it's not really worth it to spend twice the price to get two copies. I'm thinking it will be $50 on steam and $90 in store. Linking steam accounts sounds interesting, does that mean you will be able to show your ps3 card and what games you are playing on ps3 through steam? Quite funny how sony + valve are doing more than MS + valve in terms of cross platform stuff.

I'm gonna say $50 would be a comfortable assumption. Also I will only be doing this if I can permanently have it on my steam account. In case I ever sell the ps3 version ;)

I do not have a Playing Station Mark 3 so I will not be buying that version. Interested to see how the PS3 community and PC people gel together though. God, if the PC-only l4d2 community was this bad....

Anyone think that if Valve doesn't sell enough copies on PC because of this deal then they could start pushing console games over PC games?

I do not think this is how it will work, I'm sure Valve would have thought of that hence you only get the free copy when you link your psn account with steam. I think its going to be like SteamPlay the way you can play the same game on pc/mac. Basically its one copy playable across all platforms because its tied to your account
