I have figured out that I have socket 939. Is this compatible with the AMD 6400 X2? If not, is there another AMD CPU which is of comparable speed to the 6400 X2, which my comuter would be compatibel with? Please help, any help will be much appreciated.

What are you talking about? I just want some help and I'm pretty sure my help is related to PC hardware, so I don't think I'm wasting forum space. Please can anyone respond appropriately to my question in the first post? Any help would be great. Thanks

Hey, I'll answer this for you.

939 socket was the first socket used by AMD for dual-core processors, and unfortunately for the casual user, the CPU line ended with the 4400+ X2, which is also somewhat hard to find now. Fortunately, there is a solution if you're wanting higher speeds on a 939 board. The 3800+ X2 is the best CPU on 939 because of its overclocking abilities. This CPU can and will reach 6400+ X2 speeds if you're willing to put the time/money into cooling, but you could do this easily for less than what you'd pay for a 6400+. I'm running a 3800+ X2 939 at 2.6 ghz stable right now on simple air cooling.

If you're wanting anything in the 5000+ X2 series, you'll need to upgrade to an AM2 board, which means new board, new CPU, and new ram.. Can be pricey.
