I am regreting my purchase knowing that I could have used that money to buy more games, or save up for a PS3.
Are their any real benefits to Windows 7 in terms of gaming? My current OS is XP 32 bit.

Should have tried to get a student discount on it. I personally think Windows 7 IS the best windows after a long time, especially on a 64 bit computer. Games run like a charm, never had compatibility issues, even old games like Bullfrog Games (Theme Park, Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper) all run like a charm.

Alot of devs. are moving on with DirectX requirements, Just Cause 2 would be reason enough for me :>
I like win 7 more . Main diference is ofc that i now use 64bit os . I noticed that games run a bit better on win 7 too (even when i play on my "crapy" (thats not insult !!! ) laptop .
Lol, even if it was an 'insult' it would only be insulting yourself, and you would be the only one taking any offence. :P I got a new computer in my sig which came with windows 7, I can't comment on the performance increase as although I had vista before, I also had a single core and ATI 4650, so obviously the difference would be huge.I like win 7 more . Other than the added memory utilization and being able to play the few games that you weren't able to before, there isn't really any advantage as far as gaming goes. The main reason I got it was because of the student sale last year for $39. It wasn't a huge leap over Vista, but then again I probably wasn't ever going to be able to find a deal like that again.

Isn't that only for people in college or something? I'm a Junior in High school, so I don't think I could get such a discount.
I have 2 PC gaming rigs. One is my desktop, with a Q6600 overclocked to 3.0 Ghz, 4 GB DDR 800 Mhz and a GTX 275, powered by a Windows XP SP2 –not even SP3, lol-. The other is my HTPC, which has a i7 920 oced to 4.0 Ghz, 6 GB DDR 1600 Mhz and a HD 5870, powered by Windos 7 Ultimate 64 –legit OS, cost me near 320 € this b!tch-. The first one uses a 20" Viewsonic LCD display, the HTPC uses a 46" 1080p plasma from Panasonic.

My experience about Windows 7 Isn't so good, as far. Seems that 7 hates my plasma or my plasma hates PCs, due is laggy and un-responsive any time I leave the mouse for a seconds –even if the mouse is a Razer Mamba- whereas in my desktop works fine. The main reason to use W7 is to take advantage from more than 4 GB of RAM, but you will only perceive it in a few games. Sure, games in Direct X 10 or 11 looks better, but to certain cost in performance. Also, no one developer currently cares about Direct X over 9, since Valve, Blizzard, id Software… even Crytek known that most of potential players are using not DX 10/11 capable cards. Also, Direct X 11 doesn't mandatory means best visuals in the market, as latest AvP can show. DX 11 =/= best graphics (you can argue that Metro 2033 beats Crysis in textures and indoor lightning, but so far here ends the advantages). So currently I use my Windows XP powered desktop as my main game machine, even having a more capable hardware running 7 Ultimate.
Maybe in the future I'll change to try Crysis 2 or Bulletstorm under W7, but I doubt that would be any important change. I find XP more efficient for gaming: less demanding OS with cheaper hardware, better drivers and enough visual appeal. IMO currently W7 means nothing to gaming.
I have found most "newer" games have better performance in 7 64bit, cause they use up all my 8GB of RAM... Did the plasma "lag" thing happen with XP too?I have 2 PC gaming rigs. Yup, and Capcom optimized Devil May Cry 4 for both 64-bit and DX 10.

Yes, I had similar problems of laggy controls using a old laptop with Windows XP Home, so I'm prone to think that is my TV which has the troubles and not the hardware prom the rigs or the OS. But is weird due the PS3 works fine.
At the beguining I was thinking that was about the inputs -the PS3 used one of the HDMI ports and the laptop a D-Sub 15- but currently I'm using a HDMI port with the HTPC and the problem persist. I had no problems in the past with a LCD Samsung, the troubles with the plasma are annoying, even more due the quality of the display is excellent.
Only problem I have encountered with using Windows 7 x64 is that certain older games exhibit some instability on it, but otherwise, it's a fine OS.
Get used to old games crashing midway, and game mods not working as properly as they should.
That is all.

OMFG, your set up is amazing. I'm awaiting my Xeon I7, ddr3 1600mhz ram, and mobo; plan to overclock the crap out of everything.I have 2 PC gaming rigs. The mods here just skim the posts, and if they find ANYTHING that seems insulting they will ban you.
Windows 7 destroys XP. I hope you bought the 64-bit version.
why do you regret buying windows 7? You can play just cause 2 and play games in directX 11I am regreting my purchase knowing that I could have used that money to buy more games, or save up for a PS3.

I just made the upgrade myself, actually, and I am extremely happy.
it was difficult for me to pull the trigger, though...XP was such an incredible OS, and outside of no Dx10, it worked flawlessly.
Exaggerating much? :P As for Windows 7, I had compatibility problems with some games made for XP until I install DirectX 9, then those problems went away. I also really don't like the way Win7 insists on holding my hand and hide all the "scary" tech info behind five-something layers of menus and windows. I'm sure it's user friendly and less confusing to people who have no idea what they're doing, but it irritates me that there's no easy way to turn off the auto-pilot and fly manually. The mods here just skim the posts, and if they find ANYTHING that seems insulting they will ban you.

I knew you won't regret upgrading your OS to Windows 7, Windows XP is awful and the only thing I upgrade my OS to Windows 7 is because I want to play games in DirectX 11I just made the upgrade myself, actually, and I am extremely happy.

Well, you'll have to upgrade sooner or later. Like some people said, developers are moving away from Dx9 like Just Cause 2. Windows 7 is a great OS, I haven't encountered any real issues but some games do have problems, such as Star Wars KOTOR and MGS2. Those are the only ones I tested which had issues but were easily fixed. If anything, just ask for assistance here if a game does not work! =D spiderman120988true, he have to upgrade windows 7 someday,I'm sure he won't regret it, I've been using Windows 7 for a year, yeah some games have problems with windows 7, I can't even run hitman contracts
Switched from XP to 7 this year and boy... I didn't regret it at all... not even for a second! A very stable, fast and safe OS overall and recently released games run just great on it. I am yet to replay an older game on it but me thinks there won't be problems with it. :)
XP is still a very good OS and probably the most stable one but if MS keeps supporting Win 7 I am pretty sure it will be -if it's not already- the next "standard" OS that most people will use.
