Yea, SoF 1 & 2 were pretty kewl.
A new military shooter with some VARIETY in the missions sure would be awesome.
My friend stole my copy of SOF2........ I wasnted to play the other day........ It shas to be one of the most fantastic games ever.... Imagine if they did it with destructable enviromesnts.......... I keep hope for a new one............
one of the things ill never forget is the first time i saw the pool of blood under some guy i killed (by removing have of his face, naturally) and i thought "wow..... its so realistic!!!!"
And there was the level editor of types........ I may need to go buy the game again..........
It would be great! I'm not sure if Raven software is still around. SoF2 was far advanced for it's day!Thumper
I would say that SoF 2 was incredibly buggy for its day. I loved SoF 1, and I had pretty high expectatives for SoF 2. The story was great, though the game could have used a few more months of polishing.
I remember:
1) zombie-soldiers: you could kill a guy, take his gun, see him lying on the floor for about 2 or 3 minutes, and then rise and chase you and shoot at you
2) the clipping helicopter: I believe it was the second or third mission, you were supposed to be in a chopper and fire its mounted M-60. all of a sudden , the chopper would go on to a hill and clip through it, and keep clipping until a) the game crashed or b) the level misteriously ended
3) problems with the "akimbo" system: SoF 2 had the rare feature of allowing you to use 2 light weapons at the same time, like pistols and SMG's. It even went as far as allowing you to use 2 different guns, like the SOCOM pistol on one hand and the UZI on tha other. For some reason, randomly, the game refused to let me switch or drop either of those guns, and I had to reload from a previous save game
Im not talking about minor bugs that could happen on specific parts of the game, this bugs were present all over the game. Besides that, the GHOUL 2 system for localized damage didnt seem to work well. You were supposed to be able to blow off only the hand or the foot of an enemy (much like the arms and legs in the first one), but in practice, you could empty a full shotgun on the hand and it remained in the corpse of the enemy soldier (heck, not even grandes did the trick).
SoF 3 would be great if the devs choose to make it using the first solid gameplay and innovative (for its time) features as a template. Thats my opinion...
I didn't notice many of the problems you had with the game, but then I probably played the patched version. SoF2 was one of the best FPS ever made, IMO (and what a military shooter should REALLY be like).
I'd love to see a PC exclusive SoF3...but Raven is all about making mediocre multiplatform games now.
Soldier of Fortune 2's online play lasted me for years. Those were the days...GlenQuagmireI am still playing it.:D SoF3 needs to come out. I do not see why they have not made it yet.
The clan that I'm a member of has one of the last popular pub servers left in north america and people still fill it up everyday....The game itself is dated....but good for some straight up run and gun online action..
I hope they make a sequel.....but I'm not holding my breath... Until then I'll play bf2142 or bf2

What? Not sure if Raven is still around!?!? The last few games they made are: Quake IV, Marvel Alliance, X-Men Legens 1&2, and they are currently working on a new Castle Wolfenstein game.
i didn't like sof1 or 2 - i hate raven - but GHOUL was an amazing technology, and i would love to see it brought back to life
just imagine it spliced into the unreal 3.0 engine or something... don't even need to ask if that'd get banned in australia
yeah, i'm not too fond of the games, or the company, but i love the technology - and would love a sof3, if only for the brain chunks
crouch lean all the way to victory!! we all done it and prolly still do. ;)
Think some of my clan still play this gamelook out for em on your server..27th Legion, 27thL*G*N or 27th
SOF2 has to be one of the best multiplayer games ever made,SOF3 would rock, with upto date graphics and ragdoll physics, but after 4 or 5 years I really cant see it happening.
SoF used the quake engine. Hopefully Raven gets access to the Doom 3 engine if they make a SoF3 :)California74
Raven always uses Id Software's engines. They used the Doom 3 engine for Quake 4, and they are using it for the new Wolfenstein game.
As for the topic, it would be great to a SOF3, because there aren't enough shooters in a modern setting that aren't simply modern warfare.
Didn't they just make a new Soldier of Fortune game. I heard it completely sucked.pdkkbarnes1
They did.
It did.
Because Raven wasn't involved.
i wondered when someone was going to mention that - i was really disappointed to hear it was no good, as i'm a big fan of the SOF games - the first is a bit old now, though as a novelty it features Saddam Hussein, but he's not even the bad guy!
SOF 2 i will never get rid of - i love the Hong Kong bits and the Colombian gangster's house, also the bit in the penthouse suite - first you get some ninjas to deal with, then an attack helicopter
and the mission generator was a really good feature - more games should do that
i'd recommend SOF 2 to anyone, should be a good laptop game too, as won;t be too heavy on the hardware
