Just read here that SOF is finally returning with SOF: Pay Back. PC, PS3, XB360. Sadly no details about it yet.
Any bets that the extreme gore for which the series is famous for will be toned down?

I don't like the PS3/360 bit, and how they don't have "3" in the title. Raven's multiplatform efforts have been spotty at best, and I'd hate to see my favorite FPS franchise ruined for console gamers. This probably means crappy mod support, too :|Decado_basic
Wasn't SOF2 co-released on the xbox.

hopefully they will do it good this time - the 2nd game sucked badly

Double Helix? I liked the second one as well... was a good game?
NICE!
They better conentrate on the PC version though... and port it to consoles.
And it bloody better be as gory and as violent as hell. If not its just not SOF.
Ahh this takes me back to when I bought SOF1 and 2 on release days. I was bout 11 and then 13 (methinks) at the time, and the dude(s) at EB both times, complimented me on my choice of game, saying it was freaking wicked - not even bothering with the MA15+ sticker lol.
I hope this isn't just a bad rumour. The SOF games were great, and offered modern day combat without being a tactical shooter. Now you can't seem to find a shooter set in modern times without it being a squad-based tactical shooter, or have aliens or monsters in it.
So if SOF3 is being made I hope it is a return to good clean modern day shooting fun.
Could there be worsing **** news? Not only is Activision intent on pumping out the game on the PS3 and 360...but it's in development at the studio responsible for the crappy Deer Hunter games. *pukes*
"UPDATE #2: Our source confirmed that SoF: Pay Back is indeed in development, although not by RavenSoft but rather by Activision's Minneapolis internal studio, responsible for the Cabela's titles. "
I was a huge fan of SOF, this is an amazing announcment. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get an AO rating though, as these were always the goriest, and they way the ESRB is walking on thin ice right now, I hope they make the game just like they did in the past ---------Nevermind, that'll never happen.
I can see this one being toned down though, as they will have to apease the console companies. I just hope we have the option to turn on the gore in the PC version. That would add an extra plus to the game in my opinion. Just make mustard or something inate shoot out of the enemies on the console verisons. .....
I liked Double Helix. I didn't find anything wrong with. I don't know maybe its just me...chandu83
i liked it too, but the first one was more fun to play. Double helix was a pain at times because the ai could practically see through walls and snipers would always hit you. Also, the hit detection was terrible at times and you'd hit nothing but air even though you were right on some guy. Other than that though, it was a lot of fun.

The fact that Raven Software is not involved in the development has killed all interest in this game for me. In my view Raven has always delivered solid amd enjoyable FPS games, and their Ghoul tech made SoF 1 and 2 all the more fun. I enjoyed Quake 4 a lot more than Doom 3 (apart from the silly mech-driving part).
With another developer making it the vision won't be there, and it will be just another shooter. No thanks.

I agree with you, in parts. Not including Raven Software hasn't quite killed off all interest for me, but definetily has me weary as to what the final product maybe like. Especially after seeing the previous titles the developers have produced.
But at the end of the day, it's a SoF title. So I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and keep my hope alive.
In light of recent news around Manhunt 2, I just can't see SOF Payback living up to our gore expectations. The Manhunt 2 news was a blow to the industry, setting an unfortunate precedence for future would-be violent, gory games. Once again, freedom of expression is stifled down a notch or two. The good ole days are over.Qixote
I don't think people need to worry about Manhunt reflecting poorly on SoF. Manhunt didn't receive an AO rating because of the gore...but because it was a sadistic snuff game.
