Umm.... Not too sure, but it might be that the cooler isn't contacting the CPU correctly causing it to overheat and shut down. Not too sure about the price of Vista but I would be looking at around 260 CAD or so.

Is the fan connected to the motherboard, and did the heatsink come with thermal paste, it did for mine nd if not did you apply it properly. these would cause massive overheating issues with your CPU and would automatically shut down your computer

Could there be something wrong with the PSU? or could something in the motherboard have broken when you installed the fan or could something be short circuiting it?

If you're have thermal paste applied, maybe you have too much. I saw nothing but countless videos on the web on how to properly apply thermal paste, and most of them always said not to add too much as once the heatsink settles on to your cpu, if you have too much thermal paste it can run off onto the actual silicon of the CPU and short itself out. Take the heatsink off and take the locking cover off, but leave the CPU in its slot and see if there is any thermal paste residue between the motherboard and the edges of the CPU. Considering thermal paste is somewhat conductive, this may be the issue.

Mine did something similar when one of the PSU cables was stuck in the way of the CPU fan. It also gave me a message saying the fan wouldn't start and then it would shut down. Probably something related to the cooling of your CPU is my best guess.
