I just built a new pc and I am having a problem where some games will stutter ever 10 seconds or so. For example in Half Life 2: Lost Coast, despite the fact that it runs at 140 fps, if I turn my mouse quickly, the game will sometimes freeze up for maybe a quarter of a second, and skip those quarter of a seconds worth of frames. Same in Company of Heroes: Oppsing Fronts. However, I never had a problem with it in Crysis, even on high settings. I can't figure out what is causing it and what I can do to prevent it.

Specs:

-3ghz intel dual core

-512mb Radeon HD4850

-Vista 64 bit

-4gb ram

Please help, thanks.

I'm not overclocking. But I actually notice it a lot more right after the level loads, so if it were a problem with loading, what would be causing this? The hardrive? is there anything I can do?

I've been getting that ever so slightly with my HD 4870s in Crossfire. It seems to happen to me more at random than consistently. The game will just hang briefly and then continue, hasn't been a real issue with me though. All I can say is they are still ironing out the drivers. Also, make sure you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard and the latest chipset drivers.

I get that on gears of war I dunno why but it only happens when something loads like before a cut scean its kinda annoying but it last only for a split second, then the frames sky rocket to 60+FPS.

I and thousands of other Gears of War PC owners have concluded that GOW(PC) is unstable. Not only does it microstutter, it also screen tears. How much screentearing varies with each user. Mine screentears just a bit while others screentears quite a lot. Once in a while, the game crashes. Yes, all these people, including me have downloaded patches, and all necessary updates. And I absolutely hate it when someone comes on the forums (not GS forum) and says that they get NO issues in Gears of War. That's a blatant friggin lie. Unless they have some super computer or an early release build of Nehalem, they're just bluffing. Even a microstutter-free HD4870x2 couldnt save them from Gears of War PC. Gorgeous graphcis over the Xbox 360 version doesnt compensate for all the graphical problems in this game. No matter what you do, GOW PC will have issues during gameplay. Just to put it out there. Cliffy B's team didnt work on the PC port. It was another crappy amateur company who didnt know what they were doing. I kinda hate Cliffy B now for letting some other halfass company take over their famous game. I mean, wtf were you thinking Epic Games? /rant Even if you override application settings with Nvidia or ATi customized settings, the game runs just as bad. Whoever did the coding/programming did a sloppy job and they need to get fired. /2nd rant. Ok, there, I'm done.

I'm seriously considering HD4870x2 with the promise of microstutter-free gaming.

Do you have a core 2 duo or a pentium d? They are both intel dual-core processors, you need to specify this. If you have a pentium D, I'd say that you should think of getting a new processor as they are not that good.
