I've been playing POP Sands of Time and while it's a great game with some wonderful gameplay and nice visuals, it's strikes me as one of those games that crosses the line between challenging and too hard. I refer specifically to the most of the fights against constantly respawning enemies and checkpoints far apart.

Me it's because I don't usually play platform games but some levels especially early on I've found almost impossible to beat so much so it's eroded my enjoyment of what is I can see a terriffic game. Is this the norm though for platform games?

It has some bits which are, however the dagger makes things much more forgiving, then lets say 'platformer game X'.

You shouldn't complain. At least Sands of Time had a lot of challenging situations, unlike The Forgotten Sands. ;)

Sands of Time is not hard, it's hard enough to keep it interesting, but after you get the new sword it's waaay too easy.

Daniel I found the game too hard for me. Where you using a controller or KB&M? I was using logitech rumblepad 2 and just not getting it.

I don't know about POP, but games can be too hard at times. It's not a PC game, but F-Zero GX was just idiotically hard at times. Once I figured out the GP mode it wasn't that hard, not even on master mode, but trying to beat the story mode on hard or very hard was just too ridiculous. I did beat it on normal, most stages on hard, and some on very hard, but some stages were so ridiculously difficult that I literally doubt if they are humanly possible to beat. I wouldn't mind this normally, but it's required to beat the story mode on hard/very hard if you wanna get all racers/parts.

now that will put hairs on your chest :P. i couldnt get out of the beginner dungeon :S. anywho i dont know if your using a pad or KB+M TC. i played it on the gamecube years ago and i found that quickly switching between enemies and chaining attacks that way was the most effective. dont focus on just one enemy at a time. also dont get surrunded. if you are then do an overhead attack on one so that there all in front of you and then keep attacking all of them. dont panic too much when one is ready for killing btu give it high priority on the attack agenda.

i havent played sands of time but i agree respawning enemies and checkpoints far apart can be infuriating at high difficulty levels in certain games

Keyboard, I never played a PoP game with the controller, only platformer I played with one was DMC4.

Ikaruga. Some scrolling shooters since at least the NES era have catered to harcore players of the genre without even including a lower difficulty option for newcomers.

pop actually plays better with keyboard and mouse, as do most games except dmc4.

I hear ya TC, i played Sands of Time recently for the first time (still have the other ones still to play in my steam account).

It definetely had many rage inducing moments. I switched between gamepad and KB+M for different sections whatever could get me through the game. The controls in general had some major issues.

The difficulty kept it interesting (SoT) but there was a really really hard and frustrating part, the elevator level, you had to go berserk on the keyboard, slash and perform different evasive maneuvers non stop to live long enough to reach the top, activating the super sand abilities like freeze time, it was pure chaos, but it gave a great sense of accomplishment after you finished it :).

The fact hat there are some stupidly hard fightings in sands of time is a fact. Thats mainly because combat system is simplistic adn they want you to take on horders of respawning enemies later on. But to they bothered to fix it in the sequels

I don't know about Sands of Time, but there are certainly some games out there which seem harder than they aught to rightly be, to the point where they are no longer a fun experience. I personally had trouble with Mafia, the original. Kept getting to this mission where you can't shoot anyone and have to defend yourself with just your fists. Frequent death ensued. ;)

The only tough spot in sands of time was fighting on the elevator at the end. The rest seemed pretty easy.

I played the POP trilogy on the PS2 and the only time I found myself really having a hard time was the last boss from the Two Thrones. It wasn't rage-inducing, controller-throwing, hair pulling difficulty though. Far from it. A recent game that made me question my purchase of it due to its unforgiving difficulty is Demon's Souls on the PS3. I literally got whooped by the first generic enemy I encountered.

I find it puzzling that you manage to use one punctuation mark excessively in your first remark and then fail to use any at all in your second remark. WTF is up with that?

To clarify my initial post, the POP: Sands of Time Trilogy wasn't hard for me at all. The last boss in Two Thrones was the only "hard" time I had. Take note of the quotation marks which indicate that it wasn't hard per se, but it's a moment in the game that can be considered the most challenging for me since it took me a few more minutes than usual (when compared to the bosses of the first 2 games) in figuring out how to beat it. However, when compared to other games like say, Demon's Souls, that even is not hard. Far from it.
