Hello. If you have seen me posting about this topic, hello again. :D I am strongly considering picking up one of the following MMORPG's:

-Everquest II

-Aion

-Lord of the Rings Online

I just want some of the players' thoughts on these games who have played them, preferably extensively. Here are my questions that I would like answered in a polite and happy way:

1. Community. Is it still alive -- is finding groups a struggle? Do lots of people still play it, or has it kind of died? I've heard Aion is still booming, but I'm also quite interested in LOTRO and of course Everquest II.

2. Gameplay. Do I need to invest a ton of hours each week in order to enjoy it? I only play on weekends, rarely during the week. Will this impact my enjoyment of the game as a whole? Can I solo and still enjoy it? One of the reasons I left WoW was because there were, frankly, too many little kids bugging me all the time about this and that, and raiding was painful because it simply took too long at high levels (4 hours at the computer almost never happens for me).

Thank you very much! :)

I have been playing Lotro since june and it's a blast. If you like lotr it's a no brainer, you should try that game. It's an epic adventure from the Shire, to bree, Rivendell, Moria, Lothlorien... soon Rohan :)

1- Community is still alive in lotro no matter what server you choose. I have to say it's one of the most helpful, mature community (almost no kid around!). level 1-15 are a bit lonely, but they serve as an introduction and only feature solo quest. 15-30 levels have more grp quests. After 30, grp will become rare like the players, until you hit level 50 and Moria (keep in mind that the game is 3yo and the majority of the players have a lvl 60+). Also, the game is very easy to level, so people prefer to solo.

2- It's one of the most casual mmo on the market. The game rarely require grp (if it does, you have solo alternative), unless you want the best items that are not that fantastic until you hit the high level contents. It's very easy to catch on with others even with a few hours a week.

Try the 14 days trial, it will give you a good idea of the games.

I've really been wanting to try Aion for a while now, but I've heard that lvls. 40+ get really boring and there's no end game rewards.

Maybe I heard wrong though, the game looks excellent nonetheless.

I'd really like to hear more players opinions on that game as well haha

Depends what kind of MMO you want to get..

Lord of the Rings Online from my knowledge ive been reading on the forums it still has a good community it still has expansions coming out.

Aion i cannot say anything about it, since i have never played the game..

If you wanna try out a game of FFA PVP.. try out darkfall online.. it has a $1 trial on the site.. the 1st week may be the hardest.. since it can determine if you might like the game.. or not.

I played Aion for 3 months since launch, I have no idea in what state the community is now, but I can answer your second question.

Aion is not really for casual gaming. The quests get tedious, gaining levels already from 30 up takes quite some time, and I heard there is not really any endgame to talk about yet anyway (I only got to level 33 myself before quitting).

I wouldn't call myself casual when it comes to MMORPGs, I got no problem with grinding as long as I have something to look forward to (New equipment, areas, dungeons, skills...) but Aion failed to keep me hooked.

PvPing in the Abyss was quite fun though, but you won't have fun for long solo, grouping up with people is the way to go.

Lord of the Rings Online sounds like your game. Especially once you buy Siege of Mirkwood. It adds an skirmish mode that should make playing in short bursts a blast.

Out of these 3 lord of the rings is the one you should go with.

I guess I'll be the lone person to say EQ2. I haven't played it in a while, but when I did the community was still active. Game has tons of content, and things to see and do. Lots of cool scenery and environments. I really like the game. It's extremely underrated imo.

I own all three. I spent the most time playing EQ2, and consider it the best of the three in regard to gameplay, but I haven't played in over a year so I'm not sure about the community at this point, but when I played it was one of the best. I played LoTR extensively aswell and consider it a close second for gameplay, and like EQ2, it had a good community when I played over a year ago. As for Aion, I played it for the free month and decided although it's one of the prettiest mmo's out there, the gameplay is way too much like all those free mmo grindfests and not worth the subscription price. I found the Aion community a bit immature aswell.
