I don't understand why we keep receiving a huge amount of first person shooters.I mean,i have a total respect towards all those well known classics, but couldn't we conceive a new form to adapt role playing aspects to all the "Fps"?

Knowing the existence and famousness of some examples(Deus Ex,The Elder Scrolls,Arx Fatalis or System Shock),why should we continue playing hardcore games with no enthusiasm or involvement?

Im completely tired of games like "Crysis" or "Half-Life".It's boring to follow a mediocre story shooting everything you seek with the first strike.I want to have complete control in an opened environment, improve my characters skills and have complete freedom to end any fictional story the way i desire.

What shall you people say? Are you conformed with the actual concept of first person?:)

I kinda feel that way to, I imagine a gears of war-like game with a similar morrowindish/oblivionish structure... T_T, ACTUAL customizable weapons cuz I think "customization" is a term that hasn't been used like it should.

I'm hoping that Huxley will be just that, if you havn't heard much from it you should check it out. It is an MMO though, so might not be quite your cup of tea? But it is an FPS with customisation and upgrading of skills and abilities. Details are a little short on whether you can customise your weapons and armour but it does sound like you can upgrade parts of armour and gain new weapons etc. It certainly sounds interesting.

The problem I have with big RPG type games like Deus Ex or Oblivionis that you have to invest a lot of time in it on your own, which is why I like MMO because while you are investing a lot of time, you can interact with real people while doing it. So with Huxley being MMO and FPS, it's definitly got me interested, just hope it doesn't end up just being PvP dominated. But I do know it has an extensive PvE section where you can go on missions with other people or solo against NPC enemies.

Other than that, I can't think of any FPS games coming out with any RPG elements to speak of to be honest. It seems that developers are making their games more idiot proof and making them easier to pick up and put down. Rather than trying to get the player addicted and sitting down for hours on end playing it. So games tend to have less depth than they really should.

Oh, I guess there is Rage, but thats years away from release so not much use at the moment.

Have fun

I know this is a slight bit off topic but...Should I play Deus Ex? I love both RPG and FPS games. Oh and do they still sell it in stores?

But Anyway Yeah I would love an FPS with RPG elements, That would be sexy especially Online :O

Someone said (and I can't find the quote so I can't credit him/her): In cultural matters, supply creates demand.

And it's true. Companies may be reacting to the market climate to an extent, but ultimately, they make the game they want and we have one choice - buy or not buy. Given that the alternative to buying is to just do without, we go ahead and buy.

I would far prefer to play a game like System Shock, Deus Ex or Escape From Butcher Bay (yes, it does deserve to be on that list) than a generic high action run 'n' gun game. Problem is, I love games. I can try and make a point - we all can - by not buying these generic run 'n' gun games. But then that creates the most unsettling - even frightening - question.

What would we play?

The creators influence the tastes of the consumers far more than the consumers influence the creations of the creators. There's not much we can do about it, besides complain. On the internet. I'd love for things to be different, but short of making my own games, which is something I don't even have a tenth of a percentage of the skill required to even begin thinking about, I don't see what I can do besides buying the junk or just giving up on it for good. And I need me some junk.

At least every once in a while, some brilliant FPS does come around and makes all the other developers reflect on how bad they are at game making. That's... that's something.

That's not very illogical actually. The first person shooter genre is one of the most popular at the moment, so logically, there will be a large amount of them coming out. Whether you dislike them or not, the fact is that most other people would rather play them. A difference in taste has nothing to do with logic.
