I've been looking at the Shure SRH840's as a present for my 18th birthday,I 've poured over reviews and they all say they are fantastic, the only problem is the ridiculous cable length. Im not a music producer or anything and I realise that this is what these headphones are made for but I wanted some headphones which have amazing build quality and amazing sound, harkening back to the old days when you'd buy something electronic and it would just last until you wanted a new one, Shure strikes me as a brand that holds that quality but the huge cables are too much for portable listening so I came here to ask if anyone could recommend headphones that hold all the qualities that I am looking for which are suitable for taking out and about or some where you can buy a replacement cable which is shorter.... thanks

The Shure SRH840 cable is detachable; you should be able to get a shorter length of cable, if that's where you're taking issue. It's a standard 3.5mm jack, though the end twists to lock in place. Just give them a quick call (800-257-4873) and check to see if you can use any 3.5mm standard headphone male to male cable, or if you need a special cable.

Happy gaming,

Boz

Apparently its a 2.5mm jack that goes into the headphones, but I still cant find a cable that does that...
