So I installed the latest NVIDIA Drivers (260.99) to get the best performance out of Black Ops.

I nomally have CUSTOM Desktop Color Settings (cause my monitor is so bright, I turn down the Contrast and Brightness)

Now every time I restart they go back to default.

Now here is the WEIRD part:

I go into NVIDIA Control Panel, and the settings are correct custom as I left them... I just need to touch one for it to take effect on the monitor.

Ideas?

You could try uninstalling the drivers, then using Driver Cleaner Pro, followed by installing them again.

The driver installer does that for you, if you so choose...nVidia has one programmed in.

TC, I would suggest falling back one version, to 260.89.

Yep, tried uninstalling (NVIDIA cleans them up) and reinstalling. I guess I need to go back to previous driver for the time being, until they fix this.... question is: how do I do that? Does NVIDIA keep previous drivers on their webpage? I can't seem to find where...

Ok, now I'm worried... Installed 260.89 and same thing. Reboot, setting LOOK like they have gone to default, but I go into COntrol Panel and the settings are custom like I left them. I just touch one and they take effect on the monitor.... It happens with this new install version of the Drivers (Install Wizard). Anyone know what the last version was? with the old Install Wizard?

I do not even like their new drivers. I have had problems with at least the last 3 versions so I Have rolled back a few versions. Games still run fine so I don't worry about it.

Have you considered using the Driver Sweeper? I used this program before to clean up and left over files that may have not been deleted whenever I rolled back video card drivers.

I can try thanks, but I think the new NVIDIA drivers do that for you before installing.

Since the last driver update, some of my settings reset. I would have to manually go into Nvidia Panel and adjust the settings right before I want to a play a game that might need video settings tweaking. It's weird and unexplainable.

Well that's good to hear. Can you try something quickly please? Go to Control Panel > Desktop Color Settings Bring Contrast + Brightness down to 10% and apply.... (watch the monitor go down). Restart and see if the monitor is back to bright after reboot.....go into Control Panel and see what the settings are at... This will let us know that it's just not my PC.... Thanks

Here is a thought, why don't you uninstall the drivers or software for your monitor, and reinstall it, and see if that helps.

People install drivers for their monitors? I always just use the standard plug and play driver.

Even so, uninstall the plug in play driver, then unplug the monitor and plug it back in and see if it helps, hey it won't hurt.

Uninstalling the plug and play driver seems like a bad idea, but what do I know. I never tried it, all I know is when you disable the plug and play service, bad things happen.

Sometimes NVIDIA won't always delete your old settings and files as opposed to a 3rd party program that can delete all nvidia related files so you can do a clean install.

Sorry thats not what I mean, I mean just unplug the monitor from the computer and then start the computer, (may have to use a separate monitor for this). Then plug in the monitor you want to use, and see if it gets a fresh plug in play setup.

It's worth a try.... even seeing if my Samsung has drivers for Win7... Still, does anyone know which driver version is the one from the previous install wizard?

UPDATE: Tried Driver Sweeper and removed ALL NVIDIA Drivers. Installed latest and same issue. I even tried installing the driver for my monitor, but same issue :( I'm gonna have to go way back, cause it looks like its a common thing for the new drivers... Any other ideas?

I am actually on the 257.21 drivers. I think this is the last driver that did not include the nVidia uninstall option. they seem to be working ok for me and I also have the 8800 Gt's SLI.

Over-clock tool with very detailed and tweakable interface. Let's you do way more than nvidia's control panel does. I use it only for one thing, keeping the GPU fan at 100% at all times. Yes, it's a bit louder, but it runs infinitely better.
