I don't know, I've been playing adn now some games just stop for a moment and then play. Not lag just random freeze for a couple of seconds and this happens on any game. so far it happend on Bioshock, Batman:Arkham Asylum Demo, GTA:Vice City and Doom1.

Do you think I need any hardware upgrade?

Do you think I need a reformat or possibly OS change?

Rig Specs:

Intel Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.4Ghz

Asus P5N SLI ATX Motherboard

ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB

2 GB Mushkin RAM @ 667Mhz

Antec TrioPower 650W PSU

Western Digital 500GB 7500RPM

Antec Nine Hundred Case

OS: Microsoft Windows Vista

Well you see, my motherboard only supports up to DDR2 @ 667 MHZ RAM and the only 4gb kit I could find it by Kingston. I don't know if this is a good, reliable brand. Should I buy this or wait till I buy new motherboard?

have you had task manager open, under the performance tab, and looked at the cpu usage and memory usage while playing these games, that could determine your problem.

First off, unless you just bought that GPU in the past year, your computer can't be 2 years old. The HD 4870 came out just over a year ago....anyways.

Make sure you're doing the normal things to help keep your computer running at it's best.

Defrag, run spyware/adware cleaner, check for viruses - if these things aren't done on a normal basis (at least once a week for spyware and viruses and at least once a month on the defrag - twice is ideal) your computer can start to slow down having to deal with all the extra little things these issues can cause.

If that fails, it wouldn't hurt to reformat and reinstall Windows for a fresh start.

Yes I do those things on regular basis, and have auto scan everyday. I'm defragging as we speak

Kingston RAM is good, its not a bad brand, there are better, but kingston isn't too bad.

When you play games and then they start to freeze to you see/hear the hard-disk starting to work? If that's the case then we can be pretty sure that you are either runing out of RAM, or that their is something wrong with the RAM itself. Since you are using Vista I would say that the 2GB of RAM is not enought and when you are playing games the computer has to access the hard-drive since your RAM is all taken up.

Just upgrade to 4GB and Kingston is a good brand.

I think it's a software issue. It could be a registry issue, or background processes issue. You can try clean booting and see if that solves the problem. If nothing works, best do a reformat and that will most likely fix the problem.

This is correct. But after I did intense spyware cleanup, disk cleanup, hd error check and updated windows, so far I play GTA:VC, it doesn't do this anymore. Haven't tried other games though.
