It'll, once in a while, flicker to black briefly and the connection icon will appear on the top-left of the screen. Sometimes it'll keep going on and off for a little while and stops when I turn the monitor off and on. This doesn't happen often and usually happens just after I start up the computer.

It's a minor annoyance and I wouldn't even say its a big deal, since reseting the monitor solves the problem. I just want to be assured that it won't get worse, or that my monitor won't go bad (I have a feeling it's a connection issue anyways...). I paid over $400 for the thing and I'm wanting it to last at least a couple more years... (it's a Dell 2408WFP btw)

Check your connection to the video card and monitor, if thats good maybe reset your video card to make sure its in nice and snug. If that doesn't work maybe try to get a new one if you still have warranty.

Dude !!! I feel your pain...I have the exact same problem and the same exact monitor. Doesn't happen all the time...happens usually after start up. Very rare but annoying....and like you concerning. I called Dell and we did a check on the monitor and they said it wasn't the monitor....maybe the card...so I swapped cards and still have the problem. Sometimes it will happen a couple of days in a row and sometimes not for weeks. It's just a momentary flash to black...DVI connection icon flickers in the upper left hand corner and it comes back ( the screen) It is annoying... Make sure you D/L the latest software for the monitor from Dell....if it becomes really bad return it to Dell ( make up an excuse...dead pixels..white pixel etc)...assuming you got the 5 year warranty included in the price...or if it's under warranty at all. Dell does not check returned hardware...I mean they do but they won't say "Hey...there is nothing wrong with this monitor...give us back the other one " Someone said ( on Dell forums) that it is due to shoddy workmanship and that the DVI connectors are wonky on the monitor.... Try the HDMI connection...they make adapters to go from DVI to HDMI.... I personally think it's the monitor and your the first person outside of the Dell forums to say anything.... Again I have the same problems and the exact same monitor....

But other then the momentary flash to black...the monitor works flawless and looks beautiful. That 116% color gamut really makes thing pop...( most monitors are 70 to 80%) When I got it my new monitor I played FO3 again....Wow...like playing a different game...the colors..the vibrance and richness...just wow ! It's a great monitor...except for the momentary black flashes...( which again are rare..and I could the amount of times it happens in a month on my fingers...so it is rare...but annoying)

Hey, thanks for the response OgreB. Glad to hear I'm not alone, lol. If it get's really bad, I'll try using the HDMI connection. And yes, it is a great monitor. Totally worth the extra $$.

It's a problem with the whole line of monitors. I had a non-widescreen 17" Ultrasharp that had this problem not even after having it for 2 years. Except when the monitor went out it went out, turning it off and on didn't work. Dell is full of @#^% if they say it's your video card. I'd try to demand a refund or replacement, imo a refund and go with a better company for monitors.

I'd get a refund and get this LG monitor. (Also have a cheaper 22" version)

Good luck my friend...hopefully I'll find the solution soon ( If I do I'll PM you ) And yes it was worth the extra coin... My friend has a 24 monitor ( 3 months old) and he was totally impressed( and slightly pissed ) with mine and how it compares to his...we did a side by side comparison...totally blew his away. The difference in some games was amazing...( tested at same res, settings, AA etc)....the richness and depth of color...true blacks....vibrancy etc. It was no contest...sure he paid almost 200 less....but he wishes now that he had gotten a Dell too... If I find anything out I'll let you know...

This is a typical ground problem. Add an extra ground to the truck side of the plug. Take it to the frame of the truck. If this does not fix step up to the next size fuse and the problem should go away.

Well, I had my bro use his employee discount to get a DVI to HDMI cable. I fully expect the problem to have been satisfactorily circumvented, if not solved, lol.

Though I'd post an update on this issue... With the DVI to HDMI cable I have not experienced any random blinking of the monitor... but if I turn the monitor on before I start up to PC or before it wakes up from sleep mode, it will still often not find the signal and has to be turned off and on once or twice--then it works perfectly... not a big deal but still a blemish on my otherwise perfect monitor...
