Well, if you want to get a 1080p signal through any of the analog connections (i.e.- if you own a 360), then get a Samsung. Sony decided to take the console war to their tv's and don't allow 1080p through VGA or component connections...

I like samsung, the style of my LCD matches my PS3. Just do some product research. I have a clouding issue on my backlight so I see a lighter spot over black screens when the lights in the room are low. Its not a factor when I'm playing a game or watching tv, but everytime the screen goes black I see it. Fortunatly Samsung cust service has been very helpful and said I could replace it if I really want to. So yeah, I like it except for that. However, the tech that looked at my set said the new models have some adapitve LED backlight now and eliminates the problem I have with my model.

Stop spreading misinformation. On Sony's product page for the KDL403000 at the bottom it states that the PC Input (VGA) is capable of 1920 x 1080P.

I hear one of their tv's was designed in coordination with Microsoft for the xbox. Apparently you get the full potential of the console.

the brand should be the last thing on your mind
you should first consider the price, size, resolution, contrast ratio, and refresh rate.
what is you budget? because a 37in 1080p HDTV at $800 may seem like a great deal but infact will have noticable ghosting and grainy picture. The most important thing to consider when buying an HDTV is contrast ratio and not if its 1080p or 720p because a 32in 720p tv with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio will have a way better picture then a 1080p 37in TV with a 3000:1 contrast ratio

I'd say sony, bravia models. I love mine. Games look beautiful espically with a hdmi cable, I never hooked up a vga cable yet to it, but it does 1080p through component, and of course hdmi. The colour black shows up well on these tvs too, but I never had a samsung tv, I just love my sony one.

do the panel manufacturers make up numbers on television screens as they do with computer lcds? i know most of them say the panels are 3000:1 or 5000:1 or something with computer monitors, but they all work out to be somewhere just under 1000:1 when actually measured under normal viewing conditions. i'm just extremely wary of trusting any numbers they use. ditto for response time - they're free to say whatever they want, so you have Dell's 16ms panel being faster than Samsung's 5ms panel because they measure differently or something.
