I like both companies, but I just bought a Samsung a few weeks ago. I can't be any happier with this TV, especially for the price. Sony and Samsung TVs are both pretty much the same quality, but Samsung's TVs are cheaper, even though they're just as good as Sony's.

go the safe and logic path get a sony. its a well known brand for it's quality of course ou are paying extra pennys for being a sony but in the end you don tactually care at the glossy look but at its performance. i admit it samsungs are good but you'll be more satisfied with a sony. my dad best riend own a big electronic store and he hasnt got any sony tv returns or problems and he has had quite a few on samsung. JVC is very ver very good he says. he also has LG's but he says they are the worst TV's ever and they are not durable since he get alot of returns and has o get them fixed grequently.

Samsung for the win. There's a reason Microsoft chose Samsung as their official panel to be used for all their displays across the country. THey are simply a better monitor. Their panels are beautiful. I own three and love each and everyone of them. It's basically what Samsung does...whichever you pick...make sure it does 1:1 Pixel Mapping (Samsung does) so you aren't losing any clarity due to overscan...yes...LCD's overscan just like regular tv's....1:1 - when used with HDMI as a connection ... shows the picture exactly as it's suppose to be....on a Samsung its called "Just Scan".

Samsung makes the best LCD TV. Just make sure you get a 120Hz LCD if you go that route. I actually prefer Plasma for gaming though, as the motion in Plasma is much better than LCD. Also, you can get more TV for the money in Plasma vs. LCD.

im buying a Samsung off of Amazon today. Usually I stay away from the less expensive version of things, but Samsung's reviews are outstanding. Best 32" on the market I read...

I've heard great about both companies too, and have narrowed my search down to these models;

Sony 40" W Series LCD HDTV. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=209192

Samsung 40" Series 6 LCD HDTV http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=212130

Both are 1080P, same price, 120 HZ, with very few differences. I could go cheaper with the Sony's V version, or the Samsung Series 5 too, but I figure I mine as well splurge the extra $400 to get the better thing.

Any advice on which one to pick? It'll mainly be used for my 360, watching DVDs, and sports on tv. Thanks everyone.

For gaming go with a Samsung, I've bought two Sony's then soon after replaced them with Samsungs because of noticeable lag while playing 360/PS3.

Absolutely Correct!

See when Sony first started their HDTV game, they initially only made Plasma screens.

When they saw that LCD screens were improving by Leaps and Bounds over Plasma and that the LCD tvs were Selling way more they created a Joint Company Venture to create LCD technologies for Both Companies.

I recently purchased a 46 1080p Sony Bravia and am very pleased with the picture quality. I agree with a lot of posts up here though, by saying that they are both pretty close in quality. Samsung makes a really good LCD and DLP. Just do a lot of research and go with the one you feel is better for the price. I bought the Sony from my job and got it at cost for 1350.We don't carry Samsung, if so, I might have went that route. You really can't go wrong with either choice.
