thermal compound has been one of the staples of modern pc's single the dawning of the millenium its been cooling cpu's the world over. today sony's chemical R&D division debuted a paper thin sheet which has already started setting paces matching (or beating) many of the generic compounds pre-builts use (even their own) by a degree or two.

cpu 0 is being cooled by the same compound sony uses in its laptops

cpu1 is being cooled by their sheet

the sheet also has longer lifespan than compound

Thin sheets of thermal compound already exist, this just looks to be better and much more high tech. I would definitely buy these.

That's cool. Good on Sony for ending the thermal paste arguments the world over. :)

Wait... in that pic it says its a carbon fiber sheet? How the hell does that work?

Motokid6
Why wouldn't it? They have apparently made some variation that has very good thermal conductivity.

No its surprising is all. I have a carbon fiber hood on my car and i never thought id see it transfering heat from the cpu in my computer lol. Good stuff.

Motokid6
Carbon is a pretty great material for practically anything, the fibers are strong and as we see conduct heat fairly well too, even better in diamond form but they're a little out of our reach just yet, plus carbon is apparently the next big step up in microchips in the future.
