Yes this is likely going to be a nub question and I should know better, but here it is:

If I have a set of 2.1 digital computer speakers do I need any special cable to enable the digital potential of said speakers. In the past I had a set of Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 digis and they were a dream. Then I upgraded my rig and they simply would not work with the new sound card. Creative said I needed a toslink.

Currently I have a SB Xtreme Audio sound card...yes I know it's not a good gaming card and is a rip off of the x-fi brand...lol. Does this card support digital speakers? Do I need any special cable? I am considering these speakers to run with it:

Klipsch Promedia 2.1 :)

The Klipsch Promedia 2.1 should work just fine with your sound card. It doesn't need a digital input; just an analog one.

No, it doesn't. The speakers have a 3.5mm input, which is not a digital input. The XtremeAudio will support this without a Toslink adapter.

On a side note, I hope you do realize that by going digital, you're pretty much bypassing any tangible benefits that the X-Fi gives you in terms of sound quality, due to all the decoding done by the speaker's DAC rather than the sound card.

Wait wait wait: What's wrong with the Cambridge speakers? I've never heard of a Cambridge 2.1 system that didn't support the analog outputs of any sound card, and I've owned quite a few. Boz
