Sound Issue

I'm thinking about buying a new monitor, Acer 24" p243waid, and it has hdmi & dvi inputs but no audio. Is there a way to just use the hdmi to the monitor and the optical audio cable to my surround sound from the ps3. Will that work or will the hdmi not make the optical audio work

All you have to do is set the PS3 to output audio on the optical channel. Its no different than using a composite cable and the optical at the same time.
