I have recently bought DrakStar One..AWESOME gam e:) Im still in the every very beginning of the game(hell im in the first cluster) But I was wondering what you all think of other games I got interested in as well.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. and SpaceForce: Rouge Forces(I think thats what its called). Also X3.

From what I hear X-3 is very open ended, which might not be too much to my likin gbut I still plan on buying it considering everyone recommends it. But what do you all think of Spaceforce and Nexus?

offtopic: I cant find indigo prophecy any where!

I've only played Nexus: The Jupiter Incident and I really loved it. It's a great game. Captivating story, great voice acting and graphics, fun gameplay. I really wish they did a sequel but I guess these kind of games aren't popular these days...

My two favorite space games are X3 and Freespace 2..

X3 is a game that you really can spend years playing.. Its a very indepth game with few bugs now due to the multitude of patchs.. Not to mention its one of the most highly modded games I have seen out there to this day.. Space combat is alright, it can be tons of fun with certain mods.. But the real fun of it imo over all is the sense of accomplishment you get from crawling to the top with tooth and nail to create a huge empire flying captial ships etc etc. The universe is also very dynamic which is interesting and numerous mods change all sorts of aspects of the game..

Freespace 2 is the king of combat space sims. Nothing matchs it. The captial ships are breath takingly huge something that I have always noticed in just about every space sim game is theya re unrealistically small.. Not so in Freespace 2. Very cool weaponry ideas specially on cap ships with flak cannons, and beam cannons.. The game also came with a mission creator meaning that fans have made numerous campaigns. The singleplayer is awesome, the graphics are still great looking even unmodded..

With it being free there is no reason not to get this game.. Here is the kicker though, there has been a mod community sense its release who has worked every day to making the game better.. Soure Project for instance has made huge leaps in graphics and other effects where it looks great even by todays standards.. My link in the sig shows you a video from youtube with the modded game.. Also the fact there are tons of campaigns which will take you hours (notto mention the offical which is a long one as well, with alot of replay value imo).. The mod community has also entirely ported over the original campaigns from Freespace 1 to the freespace 2 game.. So its entirely 2 official great games in one, on top of enhanced graphisc, on top of a dozen of fully modded games such as Starwars, babyalon 5 etc etc, on top of dozens of immense campaigns made by users with some having voice acting..

In the end Freespace 2 is still king for straight out space sims.. Nothing has beat it thus far in the eyes of just about any space sim fan.

Id go for freelancer. Very well built system that is open ended. It does not go to the xtreme detail that some of these others go to, however i found it much more enjoyable for that. Without having to know much i was able to pick up and get right into freelancer, which had a good story to boot. X3 i tried to pick up for almost a week, and wa still so lost in the game i gave up.

I played the first X Game before like 4-6 years ago. Ship got sucked into another cluster/empire after training mission and, well lets say I got so lost with not much of a tutorial.

Subzero and the rest of the FS2-loving crowd is right; it's a crazy-good space sim, and easily oneofthe best examplesof the genre, ever. Sure it's a bit old by now, but I think the graphics will still hold up (isn't there a good mod/patch which updates some of the visuals?). The gameplay is off the hook. If you're into this sort of game, it's a must.

EVE Online, i play it. Steep learning curve, rewarding, and quite dangerous. It is my favorite MMO and is one of my favorite games. They are implementing new stuff all the time. I suggest you try the trial for 14 days.

Oh yeah I already play EVE Online :D and I love it. But sometimes simplicity, and a good story line are needed. so its basically Single Player games(Freelancer, DarkStar One, Nexus) Vs. Online ulti Player, which is what EVE Online is for.

Btw so far I dont see Infinity being more complex, since no one has really played it yet. Im no fanboy, but I will wait and reservemy reviewtill they have Beta tresting.

It seems like the best way to go right now would be either of the Independence War games or maybe Terminus, as all of those feature proper Newtonian flight models...something not exactly common in a lot of space "sims". The Freespace games definitely hit the "game" aspects dead-on, especially in FS2 when you're in the midst of capital ship battles with huge freakin' laser beams and flak flying all around you. Easily some of the most epic scenes in gaming history. You'll also get the words "DIVE, DIVE, DIVE!" ingrained into your head the very moment you start one particular mission. It's just that I can't call it a space combat SIMULATOR because spacecrafts aren't supposed to fly like airplanes in space. Now, if someone were to make a game with Independence War-style movement and physics, Freespace-style epic battle scenes and subsystem disabling tactics, and Starflight/Star Control II-style exploration of space with plenty of conversations and conflicts to be had with various sentient races, that might just be the best space-related game of all time if done right.

Heh... interesting point, and probably a pretty debateable one at that. It calls to mind a few questions: to what extent, for instance, can you consider degrees of realism of physics where nearly every object in the scenario (or game, such as IW2 or FS2) isn't just theoretical, but pure make-believe? It seems a little odd to question how "accurate" the propulsion and maneuvering characteristics of a spacecraft in a game are, when have zero frame of reference by which to consider how that make-believe thruster or engine works, what it's capable of, and how well that's represented.

The creators of FS2, for instance, might argue that you just don't know crap about how spaceships in their world function according to Newton.
