I will soon start building my first "proper" home theater audio sysetm. The ones that I have owned were all home theater in a box, which sufficed, as they came with built in dvd players. But now, it will finally be time to upgrade in a few months, as my ps3 games and blu ray disc's audio need to be taken care of in a digital manner.

I have been looking at a few receivers and have a few in mind with hdmi pass through. But, as i have always had home theater in a box systems, I need some advice in choosing out the speakers.

My budget for speakers will be about $250, but i can probably manage to stretch that to $300 if there is a really good deal.

Also, I need suggestions for subwooferes, which I aim to spend less then $150 for.

If it helps, I plan on getting either a sony or onkyo receiver with HDMI pass through, but that all depends on the better deal in a few months. Also, the receiver I purchase will most likely support 7.1, so both 5.1 and 7.1 speaker suggestions are more then welcome.

So please, give me all the suggestions you can, and I would like to thank everyone for your help in advance.

For a home theater system, I would reccomend the Logitech z-5500 speaker system, as it's THX-certified, supports Dolby Digital AND dts, and it has loads of inputs to make it compatible with just about everything. it's $400, but this includes the subwoofer so it should be within your budget. i have this surround sound system in my home theater system and it ROCKS!

I definitely considered the logitech z 5500, but the only problem is I need a receiver with hdmi passthrough, as more and more components add up in my home theater system, and my tv, which does the job for me, only has 1 hdmi input. That, combined with the fact that i have read that the speakers are hard to mount, are the only two factors that are stopping me from buying that system, as I already own and love a set of logitech pc (x 540) Speakers.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

You need some more for speakers, also you need a subwoofer as well.

$300 you might as well buy another HTIB.

Use google.com I used it and got this

Best speakers for 300-400 ?

alright thanks for the advice guys. I won't be buying the speakers for a few months, but I just want to start getting an idea on which speakers might suit my needs. By the way for whoever suggested them, the onkyo speakers look really nice, I will probably consider those.
