This is my room shape. Where would you place surround channels of a 5.1 system. I know I'll have center channel and front left and right speaker channels close to the TV

In which case the shape of the room makes little difference. http://www.dolby.com/gb/en/consumer/setup/connection-guide/home-theater-speaker-guide/index.html Click on 5.1

More details and dimensions would help. I'm assuming it is a smaller room? If yes, the "self help" setups on a lot of amplifiers are actually usefull in this case I'd think, as they adjust the sound for all the reverb from sound bouncing all over the place.

Two questions: Is the room carpeted? Where are the windows, if any? Happy gaming, Boz

The following is assuming this is for a 5.1 setup. The red speakers are front right, center, and left. The green boxes are your surround speakers. The yellow box is your sub, which you can put anywhere.

Ideally you would want your surrounds above and to the side of wherever you are sitting, pointing inward or backward, but you may need to mount them to the rear wall since you do not have a wall on your left when you are facing the television. If you mount them to the rear wall, point them in the direction of the television.

It's not ideal, but real-world rooms are rarely ideal. This setup should work very nicely.

Happy gaming,

Boz

As far as the sub goes, it really depends what type of 5.1 we are talking about?. If we are talking towers or nice bookshelves that can nicely cross over at least 60-70hz then yeah, we are solid anywhere all things equal. Satellites with crossovers at 100hz+, keep it near the mains so the sound between the sub and the sats are as seemly as possible because at those frequencies, the sub is gonna wanna talk.

Beyond that, I agree that seems to be your best option. Rooms are a pain in the ***, thank the good lord for Audyssey MultiEQ or higher!
