Splinter Cell..... controls.... or lack there of?

I recently bought Splinter Cell and Double Agent off of Steam, to try and get into the series after seeing Conviction at E3.... I played a bit of Splinter Cell years ago on my Original XBOX, and I remember being able to throw items to distract people in order to be able to sneak around.... however for some reason, I cannot figure out how to do it with the PC version..... I can pick up a can.... but all i can do with it, is drop it to the ground at my feet.

I checked the control options (where there is no option to use a controller BAH)... and there is no key for "throw item" or anything of that sort...

so as stupid of a question as this is..... could someone who has played this, please tell me, How can I throw an item?

With the object in your hand, press E to aim. That's how you throw grenades too.

"E" always makes me pull out my gun.... I'll try again.

Edit* yeah..... Holding "E" was the answer.... could have swore I already tried it....guess not.... thx man.

press "e" and aim it, and throw. Just like a grenade.
