Graphics aren't that good for a computer game but online should be good
obgoblin0
So....you played some demo that I haven't come across yet?
You can't possibly be honest about basing your opinion on the graphics a game has, without even playing a finished project yet.
I'm saving my opinion on the game either after I purchase it, or at least play a demo of it.

Why are you asking other people's opinions about the game and then, when they give it, question how they could base their opinions on something they know no more or less than you do?Â

I'm fairly positive there isn't an OnlineÂ
I liked the concept of the game and whats his name is reknowed for good ideas and for the most part their execution.
But when i saw the game demo movies it really didnt seem very interesting atall. That was some time ago though so i think if any new media has been released we should be able to get a better outlook of the game. Sim city meets impossible creatures would be nice , from what i saw though, it was lacking that dynamic element.

In the message board on IGN some people said it was online...so I was hoping someone would help me with that question too over here

I don't think there is an online portion beyond populating your universe with other's creations.Â

You've lost me there...I wasn't asking anyone opinion about the game.
I was onlying pointing out the fact that you shouldn't base your opinion on the graphics of a game without actually playing it. Watching videos and seeing pictures do not do a game justice when trying to determine what the graphics will be like because videos/pics can be distorted or not be at the best settings possible when you view them.
You just need to slow down and try not to read too much into things.
To stay on topic, I do recall reading that there is supposed to be online play. You are supposed to be able to upload your character/creation and others can do the same....I don't recall the exact details, but it does look to be promising.

fairly wrong.
[QUOTE="Blackstaff"]I'm fairly positive there isn't an OnlineNintenAlivefairly wrong. Blackstaff is kinda right in one way, but wrong in another. It's not online as in the usual way (like you can't send your spaceship over to blow up your friends planet), but it is online as in the game sends and receives information from the server (when starting a new game, all planets are populated with creates made by other players, and the building sets you can chose from are also player created which are automatically downloaded from the server too) I guess most people who say online and game in one sentence means it as in "playing head to head", not as in "the creature I created in my game two hours ago will appear in your next game as your enemy"
Even so, I doubt the graphics will ever be that good. From what I can see, they are attempting to make the engine in a style that will make it look a certian way, not look 'realistic'.
Even if it looked fantastic, the weird creatures will probably look too weird to allow it to look that realistic :p
Spore looks pretty boring. I'm sure it'll be fun for an hour or so, but that's it.BounceDK

I bet you are one of those gamers that only like quick shooters. Meaning if and when you play halo you only like the tight small close combat games apposed to the large open boards that may require strategy and oh time. If you like Will Wrights/ Maxis games you will like this one hands down. How about we wager that he wins an award for this game, and i am not talking about some tool from G4 TV giving him a fan boy award.

He could be all that, and as I personally don't have any sort of opinion on it at all, it can easily be concieved as an extremely boring game. It may be one of those many games that are 'good' games, made well, done well, fun to play, but in the end, the gameplay itself.. Is just.. Not extremely fun for long.. Black and White, the Sims games, although The Sims 2 added enough gameplay material for me personally to enjoy it for a length of time.. There has been others..
It could easily be a sims type deal, where it's a really, really fun concept, but the gameplay aspect itself is mostly 'empty', like the Sims 1, and it gets boring really fast, but the concept itself is fresh enough that people copy it and it makes money, and eventually they make a similar game with a similar idea, but with much more substance, like they did with The Sims 2.. Which, I don't care what you all say, is a fun game :pÂ
whats wrong with a game being over hyped if it turns out to be good (not saying spore will turn out good or not).WARxSnake
People love to complain, and it's always going to be *****ed about, always going to be the people saying it sucks just to get a rise out of people.. When it's overhyped, there's always way more people doing all that.. Even if it's hyped to a reasonable amount considering how good it is.. same thing..Â
It's a rather intruiging concept. I only hope the game lives up to the concept.donwoogie
I've been following Spore since early 2006 when I found a fan site. From what I've seen (everything you can find), I can safely say it will live up to it's pre-decessor (The Sims inspired it I suppose?)
And, whoever said that there WILL be online mode, you're wrong, Will Wright has dubbed it a "Massivle Single Player Game" Your world, and everyone elses world will be uploaded into a database and when you go to a planet it downloads the world and the creatures and loads them up, and even if this is your friends world and you blow it up it won't be destroyed on their world.
(Also creatures can be compressed down 10,000 times, to around 3kb so dial-up/broadband/cable shouldn't be a problem :).)
Anyway Spore has been a "revolutionary" game for me, it got me back into gaming twice :) and everytime it seems to have made me lose all interest (by not showing new footage, new features or by moving the release date BACK EVEN MORE) something will always re-spark my interest. Recently that game was "Dead Rising" which got me to make the decision to come back to Spore after all this time and what do you know there was a huge pile of information for me to be indulged in.
Â
Anyway all I can say is this, if you haven't already had a look I suggest you do, there's a few good up to date sites. - My personal favourite www.hookedonspore.com - Enjoy! :).

It's not playable online. You'll never interact with another player at all. The online features refers to every player's creations being stored on some servers at Maxis, then being downloaded into your game to populate planets and such. That's what is meant by online. As for the actual game of Spore, I think it will be cool for the first day or 2 then become boring. Really it's more of an experiment in game design than an actual game. You'll have a blast creating your creature and seeing how it reacts to the world, but I honestly don't see the game itself being all that involving or immersive. Repetitive mini-games leading up to goalless generic RTS gameplay.
It comes off more as a novelty than an actual game to me. I'm sure I'll pick it up but I'm not expecting anything out of the gameplay side of it.
