Spore question..Early game?

I just downloaded the new patch...had all kinds of trouble starting the game again but my question is I'm on the Island after crawling up from the primordial ooze....My creature ha evloved and looks totally different now from what he did.color..limbs and all?.Is that normal when re starting the game?

This topic painfully reminds me of how incredibly betrayed I felt by Spore :cry: Sorry, I just had to post this.

My god I loved that game, right up until I went to start again with a new creature and realised it was tedious.
