Looking at the two heaphones above, and I've been debating which would be a better buy. The SRH940 is known to be quite the analytical phone, as it's been said to rival the HD800 in terms of clarity. On the other hand, the FA-003 is known to be a very smooth and natural sound, with no emphasis on any of the frequency spectrums, but still having a very smooth sound signature, unlike an analytical phone's "bright" sound signature.

In terms of music (dance, techno, indie, metal, and classical are my preferred genres) and gaming, which would be the better phone to pick? Thanks for any help on the matter.

I have no idea; you're getting into a higher eschelon than for which I am able to provide advice. I suggest taking this question over to the Head-Fi forums for feedback from the experts.

Good luck,

Boz

Just updating: I took your advice, and went to Head-Fi. Although they couldn't give me direct comparisons to the SRH940, they did say that it is leaps and bounds over the SRH840; so I bought it :D

Looking forward to hearing what they sound like when I get them. Hopefully no customs issues occur from the shipment (it's from Russia, of all places :?).

Never heard those phones but I think HD800 quality is stretching it.

Well, that's what this review said about them. It lacks some elements of the HD800's sound, but it excels in others, more specifically the level of detail found in a song.
