Not for games directly, but mainly for load times, its almost instant compared to the slow mechanical HDD's.

Just buy a cheap one, just for the OS.

Yeh but I wasn't trying to confuse the TC, it helps a little with load times, but it doesn't help as much as a new GPU or something.

Also, their performance keeps increasing at a pretty fast rate. Intel just announced a new controller and its meant to be smoking!

Depends how much money you have to play with as the value you place on money is proportional to how much free cash you have.

IMO they are not THAT expensive. and yea, from what i read so far. i think i will wait. not so much awaiting on them to become more "mainstream" as i am waiting for the speed/performance increase. Thanks to everyone that posted. big help. ~craker~

SSD's dont only affect load time. This link disagrees. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/hard_data_proves_ssds_improve_game_performance

It is and isn't. It's fast for boot times and loading times, but the loading times aren't that bad in games right now anyway. I have a 500gb Caviar Black, and it's fast enough for my taste.

I had this delema a few months back, but ended up going with a 300GB raptor 10k instead, it's quite fast (much faster then my previous hard drive) but still didn't break the bank. I run Vista and my (current) games on it

I also still use my 750gb for movies/music and games I want to keep installed but don't play all too often

Wow, that became my only reason to keep it :P No, but it is a hair second faster on surfing web, and a lot faster loading apps which is not too useful since I dont open or close apps religiously. Also it does nothing for in-game anyway from personal experience...

Depends on the game. Sometimes the hard drive is a bottleneck. As it will make random guesses at where your character is.
