How does this game compare to the first one? Is it worth a purchase, or should I just wait for Call of Pripyat?

I liked it. If you can get it for cheaper than $40 it's definitely worth it. Just make sure to get all of the patches before you play it.

I liked It also but Shadow Of Chernobyl is the better game. My favorite game of all time. I also heard alot of great things about Call Of Pripyat. I can't wait :D

I just started playing it and I really dig it, though it seems tough. I bought it for $10 at Gamestop and it was worth it. Unfortuanately, I can't really compare it to SoC since I only played that briefly on a friends PC. While I didn't like it at the time (it's a very different kind of FPS, as I'm sure you know), Clear Sky made me pick up SoC on Impulse since it was on sale this weekend. To be honest, I actually looked at other forums and it seems pretty split on whether people enjoyed Clear Sky or SoC more. But very few people actually put down Clear Sky on its own.

cs is more of a straightforward action game, but If you like the first one you should definitely check out clear sky. call of pripyat isn't going to be out till Q1 2010 so you have plenty of time to play cs.

CS is kind of a mixed bag. The game mechanics are far better, and fits better into the world. While the story is pretty bad.

I really like the game tho, if you are more interrested in the world, then rampaging through the plotline CS does have alot to offer, it is alot easier then SOC, and more action focused.

I often consider CS to be tecnically superior (by a large margin), while SOC nailed it on atmosphere, and a strange and twisted plot ^^

Whether you will like it or not, is realy a question of whether you prefer atmosphere > heavy action, or the other way round. Shadow of Chernobyl had a focus on making your skin crawl, while Clear Sky was slightly more accessible gameplay - wise, I think.

Well it has many of the same maps as soc so you might find it a bit borring if you spent too uch time in soc like me. Hoewever the new maps are pretty good. Story wise it has a better beginning its more stalkerish but the ending sucks. The combat is weaker than soc. The weapons are very weak and innaccurate but the ai also does not cause that much damage and they are not that accurate. Whatever the case the gun souns are awful they sound like bb guns and everytime you take damage even if you fall from a short distance, your character bleeds. So combat is worse instead of better. The weapons you pick from enemies jam far, far, far more than far cry 2. The armors are losing protection effectiveness as you take damage. So you got to find someone to repair it for you. The artifacts are much harder to find. The ai thorws greandes with 200% accuracy and they blow up when they land at your feet. Very unfair. Its a bit more openended but mainly it does not worth it. Wait for call of pripiyat. Oh its also very, very buggy and it crashes often.

I actually prefer Clear Sky over SoC for one reason, I love killing Duty with freedom. I think Factions Wars was a great Idea and I hope Faction Wars is in Call of Pripyat, They just need to fix a few bugs with it then it would be awesome. lol, anyone remember the "hold point until help arrives" glitch?

Me too, didn't have any crashes. I think your PC fails.

Maybe stalker clear sky fails because everything else including Shadow of chernobyl runs extremelly well. Seriously now we pick buggy lowbudget games that are known for having tons of problems and crashing and we saying that is a user/pc fault?

Pure fanatism to the game.
