The UK PC Gaming Mag PCZone has reviewed S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky.

http://stalker.filefront.com/news/FIRST_Clear_Sky_Review_is_in;39530

It obtained an 88%. That is 5% more than what they gave Shadow of Chernobyl.

Again, nabbed from System Wars. ;) Passing it on for those who don't visit that particular board. Thanks to mo0ksi.

Here is the summary of the review.

Graphics: DX10 version astounds

Sound: Meaty guns, spooky wailing

Multiplayer:It's there, but you won't play it

The Good:

  • Dynamic Faction Warfare works
  • Weapons and combat are meaty, visceral and solid
  • Some astounding visuals
  • Random radiation blasts are ace

The Bad:

  • The odd bum mission
  • Crap script, storytelling and characters again

Just to put that in perspectuve, PC Zone gave Gears of War 90% and Oblivion 95%.

My respect for PC Zone is 0%.

Thanks for posting. Shame they didn't improve the storytelling from the first game!

Unless you're UKish it's not really surprising - it's a UK mag (it's actually the most respected UK PC gaming magazine). But you've surely heard of the internet gaming cartel computerandvideogames.com? PC Zone is one of the contributing members.

I Iike pc zone its a very British magazine and oblivion wasn't a terrible game but it is purely your opinion i like them they add a bit of humour to the reviews. I havn't played gears of war so i 'm not going to say a word but i'm pretty sure a ot of people bash oblivion because they played the console versions instead of the pc that was less buggy, controlled easier and mod support was brilliant.

That makes sense since I'm from the states..I've heard of computerandvideogames.com, they've had some nice interviews with some of my favorite devs (Rob Pardo :P)

Jesus Christ man, you wanna stop telling me my opinions are my opinions? I don't need reminding every other post that my opinions are my opinions. I'm not about to start putting IMO after every sentence. If I say it, it goes without saying that it's my opinion.

I have very little respect for PC Zone because their vision doesn't coincide with mine at all and I think their journalistic integrity is questionable when their highest scores are handed out to the mainstream sensationalist bull****.

I know it's my opinion, just like your opinion is your opinion and writers at PC Zone have their own opinions. You wanna talk with me, let's discuss why we think what we think. I don't want to be told that my opinions are my opinions - please.

Bad story again?
I thought the story in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadows of Chernobyl was pretty good, takes you some time to understand it though.
and Odd Bum mission?

I get the feeling they're trying to put the game down and in order to do that they had to dig really deep into it.

Totally agree with fatshodan, Gears of War and Oblivion are rather mediocre games.

Don't think I'll trust this review much.. but a 88% is still a good sign :)

PC Gamer UK gave The Witcher 67%.

It's a lottery as to which magazine gets it right. A lot of the time neither of them do.

Awesome,

If I recall correctly they also gave STALKER SoC an 84% so obviously Clear Skies is a big improvement.

Look forward to getting my hands on this puppy.

we'll see soon, folks.

Ouch, that 67% score from PC gamer UK for Witcher is scary

Oblivion is actually a fun game for first 20-50 hrs or so, depending on one's tolerance for "dumbed down". Doubtful any reviewer played that for more than 30 hrs before writing their bit.

Oblivion received high scores across the board so I assume you have no respect for any PC mag. PC Gamer gave it 95% and Gears of War 90%.

In regard to the DX10 effects, I hope they don't pull a Crysis and artificially limit them to Vista.

Then I don't get you, that game was horrifically dumbed down and casualized; it took many mods just to make it feel decent.

How can you play something like KOTOR2/NWN2 and still look at Oblivion as decent?

Poshkidney

... right.

Maybe you found some brilliance under the carpet where I didn't find it; but if you have played any real western role playing games I don't see how you could possibly call that dumbed down, simplistic, action orientated, hand holding, stat driven shooter a brilliant game.

I'll just categorise that under personal preferences.

Graphics?

Lonelynight

Maybe if you are playing it on console and sat on the other side of the room, but 360 memory capacity being the target specification during the games development did a number on the games close up visuals. Some of the very first mods in the game were to replace the horrible environment and facial textures.

Maybe the game was a graphics giant on launch; but it's lack of in depth role playing experience isn't going to protect it from its aging console orientated graphics.

I'm also confused but thats in general but it was a step foward in how worlds sholud be not just confined aeras where scripted events happen while oblivion a few scripted events but most of raidant Ai npcs did their own things ate slept quite emersive while neverwinter nights all those npcs stood around doing nothing just adding to the scenery you couldn't interact with them could talk to them or cut them down.

An NPC staring at a wall and talking about mud crabs to their clone is a step in the right direct? Depth and well thought out lore add to the believability of an RPG game world, not scripts telling some NPCs to go to bed when the sun goes down.

I hope it doesnt have the issues with Vista that Chernobyl had. That game ran worse in Vista than any other game ever, since it support DX10 they probably ironed those out I hope if so I will buy it.

The thing with Oblivion iis that it isn't a true RPG, it's an Action/RPG, so obviously it's going to be dumbed down some. Think of it as an action game with some RPG elements in it. It's fun, but after playing for a while, you can find yourself wondering what you can do. There just aren't enough quests, and the cities seem pretty empty. As for Clear Sky, it was my number 2 game last year just under Crysis, for the sole reason it crashed constantly on me, and the patch just made it worse. When it didn't crash though I liked it even more than Crysis, which is saying something, because I love my Crysis. If Clear Sky not only fixed the technical problems but also improved the game as a whole, I may have myself a new favorite video game of all time.

STALKER i didn't think i would like it much but i was proven wrong it was quite good this one i'll definitely pick up.

I got a hang of the combat after a while and could hit pretty much anything it was just wasting a few shots to see what the weapon could do but knowing what it can do at short range i could work out what it could do at long range..

I hear the games release has been pushed back to the 5th of Sept. in North America. Any truth to that?

As for the review I'd rather not read it, I prefer to get my own impression of a game; rather than a second hang opinion from someone who likely has different tastes.

I read the reviews 'after' I have experienced the game and decide if I agree with them.

Yeah, it has been pushed to the 5th - New release date

Contemplating whether or not to get Vista. Crysis Warhead comes out the following week. Wouldn't mind seeing them both in DX10.

I really have to play the game to judge, I hope it isn't as depressing as the first one. The first one had a lot of walking which I hated, I hope this one at least has more things going on in the world.

Just to put that in perspectuve, PC Zone gave Gears of War 90% and Oblivion 95%.

My respect for PC Zone is 0%.

fatshodan

Well you can't throw the enitre team of reviewers under the bus. This could be a different reviewer then the ones that did the reviews for Oblivion and Gears of War.

But on topic this game looks really good I will be picking it up when it comes out.

Edit: How the hell did this become an Oblivion hating thread?
