-So Iloved the first game and pretty excited about the second but can't seem to find a solid release date. Gamespot and other sites claim its the January 2nd '08 but gamestop claims its '09 at the same time. I'm positive gamestop is wrong but can't seem to find a release date at Best Buy or any other sites that sell games. I also read somewhere GSC hasn't found a publisher for the States as THQ isn't the publisher anymore. Probably read it wrong but just curious if it is in fact 3 days away cause that'd would be sweet!!

I loved the first as well but haven't followed up much on clear sky...If I had to guess I'd say Q3 of 08

Not sure, but my guess is about the same time as Stalker: SoC... probably around March Would be nice if it gets released in January though, looking forward to it :)

The best date we have so far is Quarter 1 2008. So anywhere in January 1st to March 31st.

Isthat release date as accurate as the original relase dates forSTALKER SoC, or is there actually a chance of it coming out in Q1 2008? GSC do seem to use a different calendar to the rest of the world when it comes to picking dates.

I'm looking forward to it, I haven't played the first one yet, but I may just play clear sky's first since it's a prequel.

It's an expansion pack, though. It hasn't been stated whether it's standalone or not (I don't think, someone correct me if I'm wrong), so you might need the first game to even make it work.

But if I buy both, wouldn' t I be able to play the second one first? sorry I'm sort of new to pc games.

Well, yes, if you install the first game first, then install Clear Sky over that (expansions that aren't standalone need the original game on the harddrive to even install). I thought you meant you'd buy it first and play it, then buy STALKER and play that.

Nah, I already have the money to buy STALKER and have already decided to but it,but i've been debating on what to do.

After looking at IGN and wikipedia it says that it's a "stand-alone prequel", although I still intend to buy them around the same time. Thanks for the help though.

Even though Clear Sky is a prequel, that doesn't mean you should play it first just because it's first chronologically. It's like The Chronicles of Narnia. When C.S. Lewis wrote the books, he didn't write them in chronological order, but you're still supposed to read them in the order they were published in. See, the devs of STALKER are probably going to do Clear Sky in such a way that certain things from the base game are going to be assumed as already known by the player, as a given. Not to mention, it's going to add new material on top of the existing stuff, so playing STALKER after the expansion might feel like it doesn't have anything new.

Basically, Clear Sky is (I believe) one of those prequels that intends for you to play the sequel first. It's one of those things where you're to experience the base story, then go back in time to understand what happened before. If you reverse the order, the feel of it might seem off, awkward.

That's how I see it, anyway.

Its based off the same engine with a few tweaks... if anything, it will be more well optimised. Which will be an amazing experience considering how well patch v1.0005 fixes problems.

I thought they were going to reuse a lot of the assets from STALKER, since it doesn't make much sense to remake the levels when they already demand a fairly good PC to run it. I expect the requirements for clear sky to be the same as for STALKER, especially if it is an add-on expansion rather than stand-alone.

What exactly does it do? I read its changelog on Gamershell, and all it said was something about some network fix.

Yeah thats true, but i've always wanted to do that with a video game but never actually did, so now I have the chance. Plus, I'll probably play through clear skys and have a lot of unfinished questions that may be answered in the first one since the ending of clear sky ends right where the other starts. So it could be interesting.

Since they follow on directly I would love to be able to create a stash of equipment in Clear Sky that I could find while playing STALKER.

That'd be interesting, although I believe in clear sky you play as a different character,
