Hi everyone. I'll make this as short as possible.

It's happened with STALKER and also Call of Juarez (and guessing it will with Crysis).

First, here are my specs:

Pentium 4 - 2.8Ghz

2GB RAM

SATA Drive 7200rpm 16MB Buffer

GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB (AGP)

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value

WINDOWS XP PRO (SP2)

STALKER: Ok, when I put STALKER on with "Object Dynamic Lighting" or "Full Dynamic Lighting" it's unplayable, it runs at like 5fps frame by frame. When I turn off Dynamic Lighting it runs perfect, even if I turn everything else up to maximum.

Call of Juarez: With "Shader Support 3.0" unplayable, with "Shader Support 2.0" perfect with everything maxed.

1- Is this normal? Looks like my machine can't take Shader 3-Dynamic Lighting

2- If so, what's the fastest Nvidia video card (last one out) for AGP?

3- Is it worth it? If I just buy the best Nvidia AGP card will it sustain Shader Support -Dynamic Lighting better?

Thanks.

Yeah, Dynamic Lighting can change the whole mood of a game or level.  In STALKER, specially outside... the sun shinning through the clouds, the shadows of the trees moving with the wind.

In Call of Juarez, the ligh coming through the windows, etc...

A BIG change.

Dynamic Lighting is HDR, isn't it? Try out another HDR game if you have one... if it doesn't work, then something must be wrong with your graphics card. Because the 6800 Ultra definitely supports HDR.

6800 does support 3.0, its not a very good card anymore. YOur system is obselete to play stalker with dynamic lighting, you need uber rigs, read the reccomended requirements, i'll list them, amd 4200/e6400 x1800/7900 1.5/2gigs of ram have a good day. go on wiki and search s.t.a.l.ke.r adn you will fidn them

2nd question the best nvidia agp is 7800gs, its not alot better than your current card the x1950pro is it will wipe that card you have now its the best agp card.

I myself run it great, qx6700 3.4 ghz, 2 gigs of pc2-4300 ram 1:1 ratio.. x1900xtx overclocked 690/800

lol @ brian peppers. um.. reason why your game is lagging like hell is because your PC needs more gayfuel. Like... upgrade it please. 6800 makes me cry... What's funny I can run STALKER better than FEAR!

From what I understand, dynamic lighting is more dependent on your CPU than your graphics card, but according to SharkyExtreme they make an AGP 7800. I'm not familiar with ATI's cards, but I seriously doubt they go much past that in their own line. If you're curious, I'd recommend taking a look at the link below. It'll give you a rough idea of prices, too.

ati does go much past it - there's an agp x1950pro that's pretty hard to find at a decent price, but pretty handily beats up on the 7800gs/7600gt.

I have an e6700 and an 8800gtx. Running XP pro and i get terrible numbers.

Doesnt matter what settings i use Dynamic lighting shaves like 90% off my frame rates.

The game already looks sub standard with dynamic on. It looks absolutely horrible with it off. Not even worth playing without dynamic IMHO.

I expect a patch soon as this has to be an optimization issue.

This game's performance to visuals ratio is outrageously bad. Wayyyy too taxing in general for the sub average dated engine look it has.

I have exactly the same problem. I have a Geforce 7800GS OC AGP and this supports shader 3.0 - with AMD 3000+ 64bit and 2gig of RAM, but runs like a dog if I choose anything other than static lighting. This sucks, I paid £240 only a few months ago for the card and the rest of my specs aren't that bad, any suggestions?

P.S. Anyone know where I can order an AMD 3700+ 64bit chip from?

you do relize that the quad cores are worse then dual cores for gaming they are at the moment more for video editors but defintly not for games .

I can play it fine on mine I have almost every bar at 90%, texture size on MAX and dinamic lighting on at 1280x1024, I get 25-50 FPS which for this game is quite playable. if I turn down the texture size to high I get 30-55fps. I have only had one crash so far early in the game. For Nvidia owners try to change the Frames Rendered Ahead from 3 to 0, it helps the FPS.

Exactly the opposite. Dynamic lighting is dependent on your GPU a lot more than your CPU. I have an Intel E6700 Dual Core and an ATI Radeon X850XT, and I can't use dynamic lighting at all (unbelievable slowdown), because my card is so outdated. My CPU could easily handle that though, but unfortunately it's up to your GPU.

God you are your system are so awesome you rule so much. My Dothan 1.8ghz 2 gigs of Ram and 6800 go card is very simliar to the system at the beggining of this thread. Anyways you neglect to tell us your resolution. That makes a huge huge difference. I use dynamic lighting on both those games and stay in playable frame rates

Well I have a 6600GT which is a lot worse than yours, and I can use HDR in many games, including Oblivion and Gothic3, just by cutting down other settings. BUT not in Stalker, and I doubt not in Call of Juarez either. I think there's just something wrong with the lighting optimization in those 2 games and your card is fine.
